Our basement is finished. It has a musty smell and I want to get rid of the smell. I believe a dehumidifier would work. Is anyone knowledgeable about this? We don't want to change our furnish system, just a portable one. Recommendations would also be great!

It will help remove moisture from the air, which will probably help a bit witht he nusty smell. It did in our basement.

We ran one in our old house. I don't recall the brand. We brought whatever Costco had. We never had a smell when it was running.

We had an unfinished basement in Iowa. I don't know if you have a drain anywhere, but we did and kept a hose hooked up to the old dehumidifier and it ran right to the drain. We never had to remember to check to see if it needed dumped. :thumbsup2

Definately get one. If you've got a floor drain, that's even better. Purchase a dehumidifyer which you can hook a garden hose to -- the catch basin should have a removable plug you can thread the hose onto. Run that hose to the nearest floor drain and you've got a system which you don't need to empty -- great for keeping it easy! Twice a year add a cup or two of bleach to the catch pan so any mold growth in that hose is killed which insures the hose won't plug up...
