Base Ticket vs Park to Park Ticket

My wife and I will be visiting UNIVERSAL-Orlando for 2 days in June and are deciding between the 2-day Base Ticket and the 2-day Park to Park Ticket. It seems to me there is an advantage to the Park to Park Ticket that no one has commented on.
Suppose on Day #1 we visit IOA and the Harry Potter ride (or another IOA ride) is closed for the day for repair/maintenance. Now if we have the Base Ticket, that means that if we want to go on that ride on Day #2, we would have to visit IOA again, and could not visit US, whereas if we had the Park to Park Ticket, we could return to IOA for the missed ride, and then go on to US, or vice versa.

Am I interpreting the ticket features correctly?

Thanks!

I would do the 2day with both park ticket (or park to park). The parks are so close its to easy to jump from park to park.If you get tired of one park(doubtful)you can always walk to the other.

Depending on when you are going you may want to check out the on-site resorts. They got some realy good rates going on with AAA and you will get FOTL for both days..

If you are staying on-site, I'd say two-park per day tickets...if staying off site, I'd do one park per day tickets.

If you have FOTL, you can easily hit all major rides at both parks in one day...however if you stay off-site and don't have this advantage, you'll probably want to stay in only one park per day to get the major rides done with the longer waits. Hope that makes sense!

If I have FOTL, I can hit major rides, have lunch, and then hit the other park. If I don't have FOTL, I'd probably have time to do a few rides, have lunch, and then do the rest of the rides in the same park.

Couldn't you do base tickets, then if a ride went down and you spoke with them and they said it would definitely be back up tomorrow, couldn't you upgrade then to park2park?

all tickets can be upgraded at guest services.
do it before you leave the park that day....

Karpkg and Macraven - Thank you for the suggestion re updating the base tickets to park2park tickets; i didn't know that could be done. That certainly is the way for me to go. Thanks again!

you are very welcome.

many homies upgrade their tickets when they realize they want to return again.

you can even upgrade your day pass to an annual pass.....
you pay the difference of costs.

How much does it cost to upgrade from base tickets to park2park tickets at Guest Services?

It depends on how much you paid for the base tickets...you would pay the difference between the two. Check the website and see what the prices are...that should give you a pretty good idea of the cost.

So if I only want to see the Harry Potter exhibit, is a base ticket all I need.

I'm not sure if there are any left, or if June is a "peak" time when you're going...

But it might be worth while to buy an Annual Pass for one of you. If you're staying on sight you MAY be able to save 30% on your hotels. You should have to call them and ask. If its a peak week they don't offer it and they also only have a limited number of codes they can use.

You will also save on food, the other person's ticket, merchandise, parking, and special event tickets.

Again you'd have to run the numbers I'm not saying its an amazing idea in your case, but something to think about.

So if I get a 4 day, one park per day pass and decide on the 3rd day we want to upgrade to 4 day, two park per day passes...can we do that?:confused3

I'm thinking with 4 days we can spend 2 full days in each park and see everything. But we may decide after a full day at each that we need 2 1/2 days for one park and 1 1/2 day for the other...and I won't know that until day 3.:confused3
