HI~ *I posted this on transportation board as well*

I am planning my what to pack/what to ship/what to carry on list.
First let me say I have read the TSA page and I know what is on the list..these items I am asking about aren't on it specifically.

I am wondering about my make up..Bare Ecentuals Bare minerals. I know it is not a liquid or gel..it was more like loose powder though it is minerals (for those of you unfamilar with this makeup).

(As you BM users know)..I have lots of these "pots" of colors, probably 12 which includes foundation, blushes, mineral veil, shadows, etc. I also have brushes.

I would just hate to find out too late that they won't let me bring it on the plane...it is expensive..as I said I know it isn't liquid or gel...but may be unfamilar to the screeners.

Any thoughts, or has anyone put this type makeup in your carry on bag?

Also what about an eyeliner pencil? And creamy concealer and a brow color kit (like a wax consistency)?

TIA!! :sunny:

I am a die-hard BE user :) I am flying in November and plan on putting all my BE in a Ziploc bag and putting it in my suitcase. I DEFINITELY don't want anything happening to it!

My opinion is that if you are unsure, check it. I have heard of inconsistancies between screeners where some things are allowed at one airport and not at another. I use a different brand of make-up, but it is also quite expensive. For our upcoming trip, I went to Walgreens and bought cheap stuff. I didn't want to risk having my good stuff confiscated from a carry-on, nor did I want to check it. (Luggage handlers can be pretty rough with your luggage). When the trip is over, I will throw the cheap stuff away.

Thanks for this post! I never gave thought to my BE. I would die if the screeners made me dump my make-up!!!!! I use it as well as my DD and DM...we would be the threesome sitting in a corner crying! I'll be packing it in my checked luggage. Also, Leslie's make-up bags are pretty durable so if you don't have one...get one. You'll have no need for baggies. If you're worried about the tops of the pots unscrewing, just rubberband them. Thanks again for the post.

Thanks for the replies..I hate the thought of checking it, but I guess I may just to be safe. :guilty:

I posted this question on the transportation board and someone said if its not a liquid or gel its fine...but I still worry about a screener deciding the BM was a threat or something...

Thanks again!

when traveling with BE I found that taping the holes closed worked the best so that product didn't end up in the lid area.

BE is fine to travel with in a carry on.

My DH had his hair CLAY refused to carry - on. And it's just that - a sticky clay that is in no way a liquid or gel. I agree with a previous poster - the screeners are inconsistent and right now - hyper vigilent.

The deal is that even with the stated list of allowed/prohibited items, and screener is free to make their own call on an item. I've been talking about this on a nother list and people have gotten things through and others have had the exact same item confiscated. At this point, anything that is even questionable goes in my checked luggage and then I cross my fingers. It's a little nerve-wracking, but less so than being stopped, from what friends who have been stopped for things like lip balm have said......

THIS is exactly why I posted the question..it is up to the screeners discrection, right?
Though its not a liquid & not a gel..someone on a power trip or in a bad mood could just "decide" that it should not be allowed....scary cause I am NOT just throwing away my BE makeup or giving it away (so to speak).

Guess I'll check it & hope my luggage doesn't get lost...

I'm planning on checking my BE when we fly out next month. I don't want to have it confiscated! How I am going to survive the three hour flight without access to it is another issue...Dsis and I were recently laughing about how pathetic we are when it comes to makeup. I put it on even to go out and get the mail! Sad, I know.

.

Great idea! I traveled several time to the Cape and Maine with mine this summer and it always ended up in the lid and consequently all over my hands and into the sink. What a mess!
:thumbsup2

GREAT idea :thumbsup2 I'm going to get the tape now so I make sure to pack it for the return trip. My BE is going in the checked luggage. I don't want to chance it in the carry on. Hopefully it will make the security check go a little quicker too.

Just returned from WDW Wednesday night. We traveled through Orlando security, then through Denver. I packed my BE in my carry on (except for mascara) and had no problem. This was on United. But I do agree that security is very tight, and would not risk losing my make up. I placed all the powder make up in sample sized containers, not the large full sized size. When we we traveling to Orlando, I packed my make up in the checked suitcase, and everything arrived safely, even though my luggage was searched.

That actually makes a certain amount of sense, as real plastic explosive doesn't look like gel -- it looks exactly like clay. Of course, an ETD swab would detect the real thing.

I had makeup, including powder, in my carry-on. Not only did nobody look in my back physically, but it looked like they were barely glancing at the x-rays as carry-on bags passed through. :confused3

Just put a tiny amount (enough for a use or two) in a small baggie or screw-top container. Take that in your carry-on and put the rest (with holes taped over) in your luggage.
