Have you ever been assigned a banned book to read for school?

I have.

In English, we're reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. (Banned for use of the "n-word"...and they use it a LOT)

In U.S. History, we're reading The Color Purple. (Banned for sexual content and...other things)

I personally find that banned books are the best ones. Not all are, but lots.

So what are your favorite banned books?

Have you had to read one for class? Which? Did you connect it to current events or discuss why it's banned?

Fahrenheit 451 and Of Mice And Men.
Two of the best books I've ever read.
We have to read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn next year.

We talked about why it was banned and read outloud.
We were assigned certain aspects of the book and had to discuss it.
We all really got into Of Mice and Men.

I was a big fan of those types of books.

I loved Go Ask Alice, It Happened to Nancy, etc..

I dont understand why they gotta ban books. They were written for a reason. To get imporant points across that kids are gonna have to face regaurdless.

I read Huck Finn in 9th grade for American Lit.

And in 8th grade we read To Kill a Mockingbird.

And yes, we talked about why it was banned in some states/schools/etc.

I forgot about To Kill a Mockingbird. I really enjoyed that book.

I think its funny that they've censored Fahrenheit 451.

I've read Catcher in the Rye, but I hated hated hated it.

I read:
Fahrenheit 451
Speak
The Giver
A Wrinkle in Time

I think that's it, but we're reading To Kill A Mockingbird after spring break.

Go Ask Alice was fabricated supposedly, but it was still amazing!

1984 FTW!

I read the giver in 4th grade (maybe 5th :confused3), which is banned.

There weren't any books that were banned from my school. But since everybody's mentioned these already....
I read The Giver in 6th. A Wrinkle in Time is 6th grade. Fahrenheit 451 this year.

I didn't realize To Kill a Mockingbird was banned. We just got done reading that last semester. I didn't really like it, though. It was too slow for my taste.

duude, we read a wrinkle in time in elementary..hahah

they have banned books in america????? since when? i have read (idk if there baned or not)

To kill a mockingbird
A tree grows in brooklynn
Lord of the Flys
Scarlett Letter

You guys have banned books in schools?! Wow. At my school we don't. In fact I don't know of any school near me that does.

The only books that are 'unacceptable' are books that are a bit 'saucy', as in too much sexual content.

So is there like an actual list of something?

To Kill a Mockingbird is banned?! Wow.
