Banking to and borrowing from the same year

Ok, hang in there, I have a complicated question.

In August 2011 the D23 Expo is going to be held in Anaheim. Since VGC is my home resort, I'd like to get reservations for a studio. I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only person with that idea. In order to fully walk that reservation I'm going to need enough points for a week in a studio, which 194 points. However, I only own 160 points. Further, I won't have any points to bank from 2010 into 2011 since I'm using them all for other stays.

So here's the question, when I make my reservation for Aug 12 through Aug 19 (thus getting the first night I need being 8/18-8/19), I'm going to need 194 points. I can always borrow 34 points from 2012. Now the tricky part, once I get the full reservation I need (8/18 through 8/22) I will only use 116 points. I know that I can't return the 2012 borrowed points to 2012, I have to use them in 2011, but they could be the "first" points used of the 116. Now, in order to get 2012 back up to 160 points, I'd like to bank 34 points from 2011 into 2012, again realizing the limitation on those points.

Is this making any sense? Is there some limitation that says you can't borrow from and bank into the same year? Will the borrowed points be used first, like banked points are?

Any thoughtful comments on this would be appreciated.

yes. just make sure MS understands what you want to do.

no limitation like that. you just can't bank or borrow the same "point" more than once. your plan should work...

Yes, you can do that. Just be sure that the CM at MS knows that you want to be sure that the borrowed 2012 points are used first for that reservation so you can still bank the 2011 points.

They should do it this way from the beginning, but when you talk about banked/borrowed points, it is always a great idea to check to see that it is done the way that you want it to be done!

Good luck!

Another thought...

We went through something similar - I wanted to walk a reservation but didn't want to borrow and then bank the current year with the restriction like you're planning (our final stay was less pts because it was weekdays). So instead of walking the full reservation across a weekend (which would have required borrowing more pts than the final reservation needs), I rolled the dice and walked one less day of the reservation until I got past the weekend and then added on my last weekday.

It worked out fine this way for us and I didn't end up with the banked pts, not knowing if we would be going back the next year.

I tried something similar and "lost the dice roll" in that by the time I could start walking the reservation (at 5 days out), nothing was available. Of course it is possible in my case that at 7 days out there would have been nothing available either, but at least it would have been worth a try.

I would also suggest walking fewer than 7 days. The OP can still start on the same day, but will need to call back sooner and more times to complete the correct reservation. And which day to start is more art than science anyway.

It is also possible that the VGC will not be that popular during the D23 Expo. We went to the last Expo and were glad we did not stay at a Disney hotel because we liked being closer to the CC. During the 4 day Expo, we were at the CC from 8 to 5 or later every day and never went to DL. The benefits of staying at the VGC would have been lost on us. -- Suzanne
