Banking Points

Any chance of banking points after the banking deadline? We're looking at a resale, but the seller can't bank 2010 points becuase they didn't pay the dues. Use year is sept so they need to be banked by apr 30th.

Will disney bank after the deadline once we take ownership of the points?

they are not obligated to.

disney will often allow late banking when you buy direct (after the banking deadline - in that one instance) but not for resales.

sometimes DVC allows a single exception for late banking for owners who miss the deadline because they are forgetful...but since you are missing the deadline due to buying a resale as opposed to buying direct, i wouldn't count on it at all...

My advice is to keep looking - the dues will have to be paid before that contract can be sold, so this one may take extra time to negotiate and get through the sales process. If the seller has a loan, he/she may even have to provide a check at closing (instead of getting one).

If this would otherwise be a good contract for you and you decide to make an offer, consider the points that you cannot use to be of zero value. In other words, if you won't get any points until September 2011, that contract is worth less than one that has points available now (from the 2010 use year).

I agree with Carol. Unless you have something in the sales agreement about the dues AND the banking of points, this could be a nightmare in the making.

As was said - Disney has made an exception or two for resale buyers and late banking but I would not count on it. If you like the contract otherwise you could make an offer that considers the 2010 points as non-existent. (I assume the dues not paid are on the 2011 points?)

I hope Disney does have some leniency when it comes to this, especially with all the backlog everyone has had considering the 3/20 deadline. We're in the same boat. We started this process in early Feb. If everything had gone according to the timeline, we should've been in the system a few days ago. As it is, we're still waiting to hear the word we've actually closed.

We have 194 pts that need to be banked in 4 days, grrrr!
