Banking Point Clarification

Getting ready to sign the papers, however I read something I think goes against what the DVC sales person told me. Can anyone confirm?

I was told I could bank points for up to 3 years. However the documentation sent to me looks as if I must use the banked points in the use year following or I lose them. Which is correct? (I am still trying to get through my DVC rep -- and who better to ask than the experienced users).

Thank you.
:teeth:

You can only bank one years worth of points, but you can use three years worth of points if you book every third year.
In other words, if you visit in 2005, you can use banked '04 points, your normal '05 points, and borrowed '06 points.

Of course, that is only only one trip every third year. :(

Does that make sense?

I see where your confusion lies. You can access as many as three years, but not bank. Let me try to explain. Bank this years points. Next year make a ressie for the following year by using banked points, this years points and borrowing next years points. So if you have 100 points/year you could use up to 300 if you're willing to borrow. Make any sense?

Thank you very much.

Well, I can not say I am not disappointed. My DVC rep specificially said we could bank up to 3 years....obviously using this as sales ploy...was working to. Oh well, that would have been nice, however I do plan on using my points each year.

Thanks for all the help!:wave2:

Good luck, dksoreal...
I would bet dollars to doughnuts it wasn't a sales ploy. I just have a tough time believing DVC would tell such a blatant lie.
Perhaps there was just an honest misunderstanding.

While DVC reps are a cut above, some of them have been know to tell frank lies and deliberately mislead potential members. Most I think are good and honest and doubt the dishonest ones stay that long. It is certainly understandable to see how this issue of 3 years of points could be a misunderstanding with the way the system works.

It can get even more interesting if your trip and use year happen to coinside. I have read where people have used 4 years worth of points for one trip. My understanding of that would be like this:

With a June use year:
Bank 150 points from 2003
Make reservation in June 2004 for the last week of May 2005
using banked 2003 points, current use year 2004 points and also borrowed 2005 points. So that is 450 points for May 2005 trip.

Now the part I think I have right:

The trip above could end June 1st, but you could then continue the end of your trip using borrowed 2006 points using 150 more.

So if the trip overlaps your use year, you could use 4 years points or a total of 600 points with just a 150 point contract. A question is whether that would be 2 reservations. Do I have that right???

I believe you do have it right. It would be one reservation for the same resort and unit type. This is a very special situation that I've only seen one or two people take advantage of.

This all really helped out a lot. I don't think this will change my decision to buy, but I now feel confident I truely understand how the system now works.:D

Thank you again everyone.
