Banking Concern

I called MS and banked our remaining 185 pts before our 100% banking deadline. Then we had a big change of plans and I decided to surprise my DH w/a trip to DL so I called to borrow next yrs pts for the ressie. I know that wasn't the best plan but the DL trip wasn't an option until after the pts were banked. When I called MS to book DL Hotel I told MS that I knew I would be needing to borrow next yrs pts because I already banked this yrs unused pts. I was told that when I called and banked the person only banked 135 pts. It is good that I didn't have to borrow as many pts because I had 55 pts still but what would have happend if I didn't call and book the DL Hotel. Would I have lost the 55 pts because I assumed they were banked or does MS generally go on the word of its members if I noticed missing pts and said I banked them?

You were indeed fortunate. MS would have no way of "going on a member's word", and you would most likely have had to "argue" a bit to get it cleared up later on.

That's why I always, after every transaction (reservation, banking, borrowing) make sure that MS reads back to me the status of any affected points and multiple UYs if necessary.

It is always easier to clear these things up at the time they are done. I'm glad for you that you caught it before you lost the points.

Thanks for the advice. The CM did repeat everything back to me and I wrote it all down. Do we get kind of paper verification in the mail like we do for ressies and I just missed it? I am still really new to DVC.

No - DVC does not send out any paper confirmation of banking transactions. The only thing you get is a verbal confirmation number. You should write that down and keep it at least until you are sure the points were banked as you requested.

Sounds like the CM made a typo on the banking transaction. Glad it ll worked out OK.

Best wishes -

Another reason why being able to access point balances online would be a great addition to the member website!

I always confirm my balances by use year before I hang up. That way you can spot any errors.

If you make your banking request online, MS will reply via email with the transaction number and the amount of points banked. I have banked by email twice to get the "hard copy" of the transaction.

I've been told more than once by MS that they use banked points first when making reservations...even if you have to borrow them back from next year. There's no reason not to bank them all before the banking deadline if you don't have firm plans to use them.

See, I thought I had this all down, LOL. I was under the impression that you couldn't borrow banked points. That is, if 2005 are banked to 2006, they stay 2006. ??? Am I wrong?

You cannot borrow back the banked points. You may borrow your 2006 points into 2005 but the banked points from 2005 stay banked and must be used in 2006.

I requested and received a written verification of my point totals. It took about two weeks from the time of the request. All transactions were in order and I was able to stop worrying. The stationary it came on looks just like the reservation confirmations.
