banking and borrowing transferred points

If I have points transferred into my account with a 2011 use year, assuming they are eligible to be banked, can I bank them so they become a 2012 use year and then borrow them for a trip in 2012? Sorry for the run-on sentence and thanks in advance!

Transferred points can never be borrowed, only used or banked.

It would depend upon when the 2012 trip would be. You can to take into consideration the UY of the points you transfer. If they were Dec 2012 points, you couldn't use them for a trip until Dec 2012. If they were Dec 2011 points, you could use them for any trip in 2012 but you would have to bank them into Dec 2012 to use them after Nov 30, 2012.

you sound like you might be a little confused about use year here as well. use year has nothing to do with when you call to book.

if you (or the pts transferred in) had a june use year, then a reservation in june 2012 is in your 2012 UY, so you could make that reservation at 11 months out at your (or the transferred pts') home resort with current 2012 pts - regardless of what use year you are actually in right now - and borrowed 2013 pts if needed (and banked 2011 pts if you had any).

I'm trying to make sure I understand this as well. So, my UY is December. I plan to call MS in August to make a reservation at my home resort for next July 2012. If I already know I will be short on points and I wanted to do a transfer from another DVCer, would I want to purchase transferred points from a DVCer with a December UY that has 2011 points still available that I could bank, or would I want to try to get a transfer of 2012 points? I'm guessing I would need 2011 points since I want to make my reservation next month, right? Also, how does it work if the transferred points have a different UY, or can they? Sorry for the questions. This is new to me, and I want to fully understand it before I pay for a transfer only to find it won't work anyway.

you want points that are valid for a stay in july 2012.

june UY pts from 2011 would work, since they could be banked into 2012. june UY pts from 2012 would also work.

aug UY pts from 2011 would work, since july 2012 is in the 2011 UY for that UY month (not ideal since you would be traveling at the end of the UY, in case you needed to cancel, but it would work). aug UY pts from 2012 would NOT work since they could not be borrowed into 2011.

in the same way, dec 2011 pts would work and dec 2012 pts would not.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, we would not want any 2012 points beyond June 2012 since we are traveling in July, right? Once the points are transferred in to my account, can I use them to book a new reservation? depends on home resort. you cannot make a reservation 11 months out and then reallocate with non-home resort pts to defeat the home resort booking advantage.
