Banking and Borrowing Question

I'd like some feedback on this scenario: I book a trip that requires me to use my current year's points but also borrow some from the next year. Later, I cancel or modify the reservation requiring less points. The borrowed points must be used, but could I bank some or all of the current year's points as long as I am still within the banking window? Thanks.

Yes, but be sure the MS CM understands what you are trying to accomplish and get a recap of your account before you hang up to be sure the borrowed points were used.

And obviously, if you cancel within 31 days of your scheduled arrival date ALL of the points will go into holding and none can be banked in that scenario.

OK. Thanks for the help. So let me throw out an actual scenario. I have 320 points. I currently have two reservations:

1. December BLT=108 pts
2. March/April BLT=263 pts

My UY is September. I've currently used all 320 points for my 2009 UY (which ends August 31, 2010) and borrowed 51 points for my 2010 UY.

Let's say I want to "tentatively" reserve something for October 2009 that costs 128 points. I would borrow 128 of the 2010 points. If, for some reason I cancelled more than 31 days in advance), what would happen? I'm thinking I could use those 128 borrowed points towards the other two reservations and then bank 128 of my 2009 points to 2010.

Am I on the right track here? Thanks.

Yes, you are. You would just want to make sure when you call MS that you ask them to do a "points reallocation" (I believe that is what it is called) so that your borrowed points get used for the March/April trip and then the 2009 points you used for that get "banked" into 2010.

Yes those borrowed points from 2010 UY into 2009 UY would need to be used by 8/31/2010 (end of 2009 UY). 2009 Use Year points are usable from 9/1/2009-8/31/2010 and bankable up to 4/30/2010. As per OP's ressies :

~ Dec 2009 reserved with 108 pts from 2009 UY (212pts from 2009 UY left)
~ Mar/Apr 2010 reserved with 212pts from 2009 UY + 51 borrowed 2010 pts
then OP reserves
Oct 2009 using 128 pts borrowed from 2010 UY but cancels at least 31 days
prior to check-in date; at member's request MS can put these 128 pts
from 2010 UY into Mar/Apr 2010 reservation in place of 128 2009 UY pts
(since that ressie contains 212 pts from 2009 UY allotment)
and member may then bank those 128 2009 UY pts by April 30 2010 which
is banking deadline for 2009 Use Year.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that you could make a reservation with 2009 points, then have MS use 2010 points (for whatever reason), and then bank the 2009 points.

Had a great cm help walk me through it when I had done a very similiar scenario to what you're outling.
