Banked points expiring on resale

We have a contract in ROFR now that has some 2015 banked points that will expire this summer. We are hoping the contract will go through fast because of how things have been moving lately. If we get those points in our account right before they expire, can they be used for RCI travel later or will it be too late for those points? It's ok if it's too late, I just wanted to know if there are any options for them if we happen to get them right before they expire. We may not even get them before they expire.

Call MS to see if they are willing to bank them for you. Folks have reported that MS have done these special exceptions for them.

You'll probably be able to do something, depending on your use year. We bought a resale in January that had 50 2015 points that could not be banked, and we have an August UY. I ended up renting them last month through David's for $13/point; it was a nice bonus for us. I believe I also could have transferred them over to RCI as long as I did it by June 15.

Good luck!

They are already banked points that expire. I really didn't buy the contract for those points, but thought RCI might be an option so they won't be wasted. I looked through the RCI info and I think we can deposit them in RCI right before they expire, but I've never used points for RCI so I wanted to check if others had experience with it. It would still cost a lot for airfare and food, so it may not be worth messing with it because the quality of the resorts are probably not up to our standards.

Yes, MS has been known to bank points that have already been banked for new owners. Doesn't hurt to try - and you might find a sympathetic CM.

Well I didn't expect that at all. It has a lot of banked points so Disney may decide to keep it if they can do that with expired or near expired points. I guess I will just wait and see what happens and not worry about it. Thanks for the information. If we get it, I can always ask.

I wouldn't expect that. I've never seen one report that MS allowed points to be banked twice. I have a feeling it would violate the terms of the DVC system.

Can you point us to one post of a person that was able to bank points that were previously banked?

I would think so too and probably won't ask. I would be kind of mad if Disney could do that for themselves and we can't. IF we get them before they expire, I will ask them about depositing them in RCI. I see the fee has been waived this year.

I have never heard of banked points being allowed to be banked again.

I have read about points that were past the banking deadline getting a one time exemption and getting banked.
Yes we were allowed to bank points that were outside of our banking window as a new resale owner in 2015 (didn't ask for this MS simply offered it). Late last year when we bought another contract that banked points expiring soon we were told that they had to be used prior to the end of the current UY as they absolutely could not be banked a second time (was considering a stay that would have started near the end of the current UY but end into the new UY and was just trying to figure out if that would be allowed as I've never booked across a UY before. Since it wasn't an option we just moved the last minute trip up a week).

Regarding my post on banking previously banked points; it's my recollection of hearing it's been done, but it's also very possible that I was wrong. Guess my age is starting to catch up to me. Until I have time to research and can locate a reference, please disregard that post. I might have gotten mixed up since MS has made so many exceptions. Sorry for the confusion! (By the way, for us personally, MS has among other things moved borrowed points back to their original UY, as well as swapped non-home resort points with points on a reservation that was booked during the 11-month priority window, when there was no current availability.)

I have no idea -- but I'm pretty sure @Dean would know.

I've seen it reported a few times but it was always very special situations. I'm trying to recall if I've ever seen reports of it being allowed as the once in a lifetime double secret exception and I'm not sure. I am sure they have allowed holding account points to be banked AND removed from holding status at the same time.

I think it's only been a time or two and related to some illness, death in the family etc. I don't recall it being done just for a purchase but maybe it has been.
