I have seen threads on here from band parents and I am hoping some of you can help.

My daughter has gotten valve oil on her school uniform pants and I have pre-treated it with my usual stuff but its not working.

Any suggestions or should I just toss and buy a new pair??

Thanks for any help!!

OK, I may be WAY off, but it's just a thought. I had an oil stain on my granite counter top, and I was told to use acetone to get it out. It worked beautifully. Now, I'm not sure what acetone would do to clothes, but maybe a tiny dab just on the oil spot? Maybe as a last resort.

Shampoo, and especially the kind designed for oily hair, is good at taking oil out of fabric.

Hmmm okay..silly question, is that the same as nail polish remover?:confused3
A friend on facebook also just recommended Dawn dish detergent.

I second Dawn dish detergent! I've had the same problems with valve oil on clothes! Good luck!

I have tried this, scrubbed it with a toothbrush and will be putting it back in the wash with the next load. Crossing my fingers and buying DD a towel for her lap!!

I always go to my folks' house and borrow their naptha for really oily spills on clothes. Not sure if you can still get it--their old can looks like it's from the 70's at least.

BTW, valve oil is VERY toxic if inhaled. DD drank some when she was two and we had to go to the hospital for SIX hours to be sure she hadn't inhaled any. It's a petroleum product and has a warning label on it.

I wonder if many band directors warn their students who may have curious younger siblings about this. My dd did it in dh's high school band room.

OH MY GOSH...I didn't know this!! Good to know, thank you!

if the pants are polyester don't use acetone, can eat right through it!

Zout is my go-to stain remover/pretreater. (not a band parent though).
