Bambi just tried to ruin my trip to Disney! Had a psychotic deer jump out in front of my new minivan tonight. No one was hurt, thankfully. A deer, however, is dead somewhere in the Kentucky woods. The decuctable must be paid to fix the van, that we plan on taking the to Disney in Oct, so I consider this an random act of animal violence against our Disney trip. LOL One of my seven years olds was in the vehicle, I am so lucky to have no injuries, I just really hate that this week was so crappy, and ended this way. :guilty:

Glad you are OK. Hitting a deer will ruin your day every time. I have in the last 10 years, hit a deer 4 times. Once with a 2 week out truck still had the plastic on the back seat. Once with a Corvette. Wreaked my vet pretty bad.

I have only a 200.00 deductible on my car and most times the places just eat the deductible and we don't even have to pay it--I guess with a higher one you would have to pay but I have never had to pay a deductible when getting my car fixed from an accident.

A deer tried to ruin your trip that you aren't taking until Ocotober? Ha!

3am we left the house on our 19 hour road trip to Disneyworld. 5am we are around Morgantown, WV when a deer tried to ruin our trip.

Luckily, the car behind us swerved around so I could brake harder and barely bumped the deer. Crushed just the corner of the bumper. We continued on our way and dealt with it when we got home.

After getting home is when we noticed the hood dented from the deer getting it's head flopped onto it (probably that is what killed the deer.) We have $100 deductible on stuff like this, but fixing and repainting the small dent in the hood was most of the expense on the repair.

OP, I am so glad that you are OK. A lot of the time a deer-vehicle collision has terrible consequences for the people in the vehicle as well as for the animal. Count your blessings on this one and be very glad you didn't hit a moose. :scared1:

Only deer I've ever hit was at 2:00 in the afternoon right in the middle of town! Have had many close calls with deer over the years, and one cow elk :scared1: Just one of the hazards out there. Better to hit one than to swerve into the ditch & flip over though.

Seems the one piece of advise I took from my dad was how to hit a deer. Don't break, swerve, or do anything else stupid if it is inevitable that you are going to hit the piece of fur. Cars can be replaced, your life can't. Thankfully we have a low deductible, but I know for sure there is no way they will eat the cost and allow us not to pay it out of pocket. It is just the icing on the cake for the rotten week I've had. Yes, I got to book my trip with free dining to the most magical place on earth, but everything else this week can suck it. My early WDW planning of ADR's and what park to visit what day will keep my mind occupied for now and off of wanting to sleigh all the deer out here in podunk. At least it wasn't a moose. :woohoo:

Glad to hear everyone is ok!

I also just hit a deer last night, :(

I've been working 2nd shift for over 10 years now.. get out of work around midnight.. and every single night, I spot deer standing by the side of the road or occasionally crossing in front of me. And always see raccoons, possoms, rabbits, etc crossing in front of me.. Have never hit a single animal though till last night, :(

Last night, had one deer cross.. slammed on my brakes (I'm always the only car on the entire stretch of 5-mile road, lol).. saw a second one a bit too late.. she walked right in front of me.. luckily by that time I was only going around 15-20mpg, and ended up hitting her right in the side, :(

Only damage to my van I can tell is just a bent under license plate.. and the deer seemed ok.. got knocked to the ground, but got right back up, and ran off into the woods.

I have, in the fifteen years since I've had my driver's license, hit the following: A turtle, a squirrel, two coons (my car is currently in the shop on this last one with $1700 damage), seven hogs (four at once!) thirteen deer (one actually kamikaze'd me and ran into my driver's side door), lots of birds, a dog, two gators, several possums, a bobcat, more snakes than I care to count, and a partidge in a pear tree (kidding!). That's the stuff I can remember. The only things I haven't hit which are indigenous to our area are bears and fish, and by golly they better watch it. My old insurance company asked me if I drank. Ha! They tried to call bs on the four hogs at once. I was on the phone with them and emailed them pics of the hogs in the road and my poor car. RIP, Toyota Camry. It's not that I'm an unsafe driver, I just seem to attract animals, even when in my car. My kids joke that the animals have radar and come running when I go by. Poor animals, I wish they'd stop.

:rotfl:

My uncle bought a new car in about 1970 & in the first six months had:

*Pipe in the rafters of his garage that had been there for years fell through the windshield.
*Buffalo rammed his car at a drive through animal park.
*A horse took a bite out of his upholstery :rotfl:

edit: same uncle, but in his pickup truck hit a deer that flipped up on the hood & came through the windshield.
