Baltimore Orioles fans: You should be ashamed of yourselves

get rid of the michael irvin picture and regain some credibility to your argument, until then it is not your place to talk about rotten eggs. irvin was/is a druggie and his kind of drugs and crimes are against society. raffys crimes although terrible are only against baseball. i think for you to call out raffy and you have a picture of irvin is the biggest piece of hypocrisy i have seen in a long, long time.

Like I said, I am talking about sports, not someone's personal life.

I could care less if someone does coke every night and has a hooker.

I'm a sports fan and I don't want to see baseball become as legitimate as professional wrestling.

i dont know how rampant roids are/were in baseball. i am just happy they are cleaning them up, however. slow that seems. and i agree with your op that for oriole fans to cheer him was ridiculous. roids does ruin the integrity of the game. and in my mind raffy does not deserve to be in the hof.

I don't care what Michael Irvin does within the confines of his hotel room. I do care when some jerk like Palmeiro compromises the integrity of the sport and lies under oath.

Really.........and that includes hookers and illegal drugs.

Good Lord, you can't make this stuff up.

Not my choice of words, but certainly my sentiments.

The reason I said that it mattered whether or not the steroids were in his system during the trial is because he was being accused of perjury, and there is no proof yet so I don't think people should make that accusation. As for your hatred of the sport of baseball, I don't think you should take it out on one person.

1 person? What about Kenny Rogers and his love of the media, all the young ones that have tested positive this year, Sosa and the cork, Big Mac and his steroid use, Bonds and his Steroid use....it is far from 1 person!!!!!!!!!!!

The steroids have become so rapant and even with the drug policies the players nor MLB care!!! All they care about are the long homeruns rbinging people into the gates. If they continue to let these players get aweay with only a 10 game suspension they will not learn. Another thing that is a joke about the policyis the fines and suspensions are supposed to get longer for a second offense.....but how convinient there hasn't been a second test of a positive player.

believe me it's far from 1 player!!!!!!

This sport has become nothing but a second rate sport since the strike. Yes some good things happened during the time, but now all those good things have come because of cheating (corks, drugs, etc....). After Macs just bout confession and Sosa's cork HOW CAN WE BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY HIT ALL THOSE HR'S themself back in that great year? Don't tell me Barry Bonds has just got better with age....How funny they don't test one of the best players, but also one of the biggest users????? Ah yes the words "random drug testing", which in words mean anyone at anytime, but in MLB'S meaning means whoever we feel like it to make you all feel better!

Take it easy on Sosa's cork. I checked on this and they actually checked 76 of his bats and none of them were corked. It was his batting practice bat that he used to put on a show for the fans with.

While I certainly can't come up with the stats most of you are, I know that I am very disappointed in the sports figures that my son looks up to. Add to that, the female teachers sleeping with their students, the dirty cops, parents in the stands who should be taken off property, etc.

Right now we are having the "chewing tobacco" debate. DS, 15, sees nothing wrong with it as all the big timers do it, he says. While this is certainly not a crime against anyone, it sure as hell isn't a good role model for a son I'd like to keep around for a long time! :earseek:

Sheesh! If you're going to get that wound up about it then don't watch it.

Just because he has a picture of Michael Irvin in his sig doesn't make his observation about Palmeiro wrong (though admittedly it doesn't help). Palmeiro is a disgrace to the sport of baseball and should be embarrassed to set foot on the field.

Have others taken advantage of baseball's lax policy on steroids up to this point? Absolutely. Does that mean Palmeiro shouldn't be judged for using them? Of course not! He violated league policy when he *knew* there would be testing for such things. He violated it with a substance that cannot be confused with something else (it's no dietary supplement).

Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.

Mind you, I'd have said the same regarding Michael Irvin ;)

I'm not watching it anymore, that's my point. People try to sit here and defend the actions of the players and this league when all it has done is drag itself down even lower than hockey!

You may be fooled in to thinking it is still america's pasttime. But after almost 30 years of dedication to this sport I am here to honestly say I am done with the sport!!!

Welcome back NFL just in the nick of time, hell I will even take hockey back in a couple of months, and that's saying alot from me a longtime hockey hater. I do not condone what Hockey did by bringing back Bertuzzi and his sucker punching, but at least what he did doesn't ruin the truth in advertising of the product. Baseball has druggies, and where are they now...oh that's right on tv still making millions because people still want to immortilize them and and not care.

Again I am not here to tell others to stop watching or anything, but what I am saying is there is no way anyone can side with rafy, or any of the other users and still say baseball has integrity!

I fully understand what you originaly said in maybe he didn't comit perjury, and you could very well be right about that, that isn't my point. My point is he deined denied deined to the point where it seemed like he was mad they accused him,,,,well what happened he failed. He failed because either he was stupid to not think they would test him, or he was ignorant and didn't want to know what went into his body, either way it is his own fault and he deserves all the consequence that will come, including hopefully no HOF.

OK, what's hockey got to do with it? (what's love got to do with it?)

I do care when some jerk like Palmeiro compromises the integrity of the sport and lies under oath.

So it's okay to be a loathsome human being as long as you don't compromise the integrity of the game?

Look - I don't think Palmiero deserves fan support - but snorting coke with a gaggle of hookers is at least as morally despicable as taking steroids.

But let's face it - Mike Tyson still has fans. Rae Carruth still has fans. Kobe Bryant still has fans. OJ -freakin'-Simpson still has fans. Why should we be surprised that Palmiero still has fans?

This thread is about Rafael Palmeiro and sports.

It is not about a retired football player's wild life off the field 10 years ago.

I didn't know that Carruth still had fans, but...

The point is a sports fan I really don't care if a player smokes weed, does coke, or cheats on his wife, or whatever he does off the field (barring that it is murder or rape).

As a sports fan I care about what happens on the field. Raffy and people like him are turning baseball into an illegitimate circus.

Steroids is worse than what Rose did, but I consider what Rose did a lot more important to me than what Michael Irvin did.

I just don't know how you can support a baseball player who was proven to have cheated.

Forget perjury if you want to, even though he's probably guilty of it. He cheated. In a big way. With a steroid that didn't get there by mistake.

Would you support a boxer who used brass knuckles in a fight?

Fine, he may not be the perfect individual, but he never compromised the integrity of a sport like Raffy. Nor did he lie to Congress and point his finger around.

How did Irvin ever compromise the integrity of the sport. He did nothing that illegally enhanced his team's chance of winning a game.

And what's so funny about Sosa's incident. All 76 of his other bats were confiscated and tested, and none were corked.

Bob DuPuy, Major League Baseball president and chief operating officer, issued the revised ruling Wednesday.

"I am convinced of the sincerity of Sosa's explanation and his contrition," DuPuy said. "In my opinion, his candor and the promptness of his apology on the night of June 3 were exemplary.

"The suspensions over the past 20 years for the use of an illegal bat have ranged from seven to 10 games," DuPuy said. "Given the circumstances of this case, I felt that the lower end of the range was the most appropriate."

MLB security officials confiscated 76 other Sosa bats during the game and X-rayed them. They all came up clean as did five in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

---

There's not much more proof you could possibly find to prove his innocence. Every single bat he owned, plus previous bats he used to hit HRs with. Not a single one was corked.
