Tonight in Omaha there is going to be a hot air balloon glow. I was hoping for some quick advice.

I have a Canon 40D, the 28-135 Kit Lens and the 50mm 1.8 lens. Which of those would be better for taking pictures at dusk of illuminated balloons?

I was reading Groucho's comment on the Spectro/Fireworks thread that said for Spectro, speed was important, but for fireworks, it wasn't as important. That made me wonder about the balloons.

Thanks

I'd take both, but if I had to pick just one it'd be the 28-135. Might need the extra width.

Looking forwrd to seeing your photos. It has been a long time since I was in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta and didn't have a camera then anyway. Balloon glows are fun to walk through.

Are they flying? Or anchored. and will it be windy or even the least but breezy?

I imagine that if they are illuminated from the inside, at night, and if you fill most of the frame with the balloon, you should be able to get an adequate shutter speed to stop any movement.
I also imagine you are already gone, if not back already. Hehehehehe And I am jealous of the photo opportunity. I hope you post some for our pleasure.

Walk through? You can get that close? Yes you will need the widest lens you have! hehehehehe

I would have to set up my tripod, like tenths of a mile away, hehehehehe
