Hi everyone! I have a total newbie question! I received a prepaid gift card for my birthday, can i use it to pay on my balance??? It is not a Disney gift card, just a regular prepaid one.

Thanks!

I would think so as long as it is a card Disney takes (Visa, Mastercard, etc) and the amount paying is equal to or less than the amount on the card you are using. Hope it works out, but I can't imagine why not if the two above are ok. Good luck!!:thumbsup2

You can, but be aware of one thing. For whatever reason, WDW Travel is recorded on most prepaid cards as a transaction requiring a 20% holdback. Typically, when you go to a restaurant, they will put a hold on a credit (or debit) card for 20% more (to cover tip, etc). The WDW Travel transaction does the same thing (I don;t know why). So be sure that you have the amount you want to charge plus 20% available on the card, otherwise it will likely decline and you'll have to choose a lesser amount to pay. The 20% should release by the next business day.

When did they start this? I have used prepaid cards in the past with no extra 20% taken out.

I used several Visa gift cards earlier this month, and the 20% was put on hold. Ultimately the hold was released the next day, but it's existence made it impossible to empty out these cards paying WDW. I don't know if it's specific to Visa branded cards, but I was surprised that this was the procedure (as was the CM trying to figure out why the cards were declining).

I've used Disney gift cards, Visa debit cards and Visa credit cards to make my payments on my reservation and never have I had this happen. I've never used a Non-Disney gift card to make a payment so I'm not sure if it's related to Non-Disney branded cards or not. But I do know that other forms of payments do not incur this type of charge. The code on the purchase is what generates this hold by the bank - not all banks do this.

OP here, after thinking about it i do remember them putting a hold on my credit card when i put my deposit down. I think i will use my pre-paid card to buy a Disney gift card and use that to pay my balance! Thanks fof the help everyone!
