I always bake our kid's favorite cookies, brownies and rice crispy treats to take with on vacation. It's so nice to have treats in our room to take to the pool or eat before we leave for the parks at night. Buying treats for six can be costly(4 kids 2 adults).

:teeth:

I do the same thing for our trips. We actually eat most of the treats in the car, though. It is a tradition that my mom started when we were growing up and something that I have continued. My husband thinks it is one of the best traditions that I have brought into the marriage. It's the only time he gets home made goodies!!!!!!!

I make a double chocolate cake on the first night we arrive to Orlando. It's a tradition I made up for my family (three years ago). We take fruit, sandwiches, pretzels and juice boxes for our drive down. My DH and DD look forward to Mom's cake on arrival night. :)

I've always tried to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for our trips 'cause my husband loves them. :love2:

Me too! I bring them on the plane. They taste "oh so good" compared to what the airlines serve! You should see the envious looks I get from fellow passengers. I think they want me to share... :teeth:

We always mix up a huge batch of trail mix for the trip. We even take a bag into the park each day. It comes in handy in line or waiting for shows. My youngest DD is in a wheelchair with a backpack and it works great for storage! :teeth:

Does anyone have some recipe "tips?" In other words, what do you make that travels well and is yummy? Any recipes out there?

Bumping this up cuz I'm interested in some recipes too...especially trail mix! JoyMouse, if you're there...what do you put into your trail mix??

Thank you! :)

I'm going to try the recipe question as a new thread to get more responses.

We have taken along a cookie mix (like the ones you can get in the glass jars, but I put mine in a ziploc bag), and baked fresh cookies one evening during our trip. All you usually need to add is maybe some butter and eggs, which we always have on hand for breakfast anyway. It sure makes the room smell great and the kids love the treat of warm cookies in the evening.

We also bring along our own bags of microwave popcorn. Makes a great snack while unwinding at the end of the day.

Obviously we stay at DVC resorts so we have a full kitchen to use. I'm sure there are a lot of great microwave recipes out there that you could do the same thing as the cookies with. ::MinnieMo

I usually make those no-bake cookies (with the oatmeal, peanut butter and chocolate) that you boil on the stove. They are quick to make and you don't need an oven. Also a great camping snack.

We also bring down microwave popcorn to make and snack on in the parks.

Hi!

I am a big fan of trail mix for the parks. It is a great pick-me up when you are tired and hungry. I mix together some m and ms, peanuts, cheerios, chex, and some pumpkin or sunflower seeds. A great combo!

I also love nutri-grain bars or granola bars for the parks and the rooms. They are perfectly portable, inexpensive, and very satisfying. Yum!
