Bags, Busses, and Booze - A Where has all the Rum gone Girls 2013 F&W TR

I remember your check in drama! They kept screwing up my dining plan! I know I have said it before, but I am so glad we got to meet! I had so much fun that night! I know I fell asleep practically the second I got to my room, not sure how you managed to walk around looking at available rooms!

I had an excellent time too! And as for sleep.. yeah. I was soo tired. However I don't know how often the opportunity comes to be able to look at available rooms so I had to not pass that up! Believe me... once in our "home" for 8 nights, it was not long before I was out cold. :goodvibes

so did you end up in Martinique?

Yep, we did! It was a nice area. I would definitely request that area again if I were to ever stay there again. Would I pay for the upgrade to preferred water view? Maybe not....

Two great updates, Ann.

We found it "odd" the first time we went to Disney without the kids. But trust me, we grew out of that real fast. :lmao::lmao::lmao: As much as I loved our trips with the kids (and still do when Andy joins us), there's just something different about our adult only trips.

I'm sorry no one could help you with your ticket issues at the front desk. And so sorry that you had a smelly room. But how great was that of the CM to walk you around the resort to find you a perfect room. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for her.

I arrived at customs house and with little to no line was checking in. It seemed like a pretty painless process except for the fact I was requesting that I not need to check out and back in the very next day. For those who followed the PTR, you will remember that I had a single night RO on 9/28. It took some doing since the room the next day was not in fact the one I was to have that night. Some phone calls and managers help and voila, I was set to be in the same room.

Next I had to switch windows to go to concierge. I had MNSSHP party tickets, a 2 day base ticket, a TIW card and a paper AP that had to be dealt with. Sadly, after discussing each with the cm, not a single thing was dealt with.

I then walked out to wait for the internal bus system. It wasn't very long before I realized that I had left my KTTWC at the concierge desk.

After retrieving it I went back out and waited....and waited...and waited. :rolleyes1 I had places to be. This is what really set me off on my path to being agitated. Finally the bus came and my agitation was fully motivated by a 20 minute bus ride.

UUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that all sounds incredibly painful, slow and to a large degree a huge wast of time.

This is when I almost had a meltdown. While I had found our room easy enough, I couldn't seem to figure out how to catch a bus to MK. I think Ashley could tell (she always seems to be able to sense what is going on in my head) that I was about to have a meltdown. She called and her voice was enough to bring me back down. About that same time I hit the lake. Since the lake was similar to CSR... I was now confident that I could find my way. :faint:

Once at MK, I went to guest services and exchanged my paper ap for my plastic one. I also got the MNSSHP tickets.

FINALLY, it was time to go in and meet up with Katie. It was not hard to find her and soon we were off on our little adventure. It was so nice to have someone to trek around MK.

First she was nice enough to understand that I was hungry. We went to one of the only places open - Pecos Bills. I had the Southwest Chicken Salad. Sorry... no pics. It was actually pretty good. We sat and talked as I ate.

Once we were done, we went directly to what Katie said she knew was my favorite ride. Any guesses? Let me snag a photo from the internet to help

images

We then went on
images

I believe we tried to hit jungle cruise but it was down for refurb. Not sure I was aware this would be down for some of the trip.

Soon it was time to go. Katie was kind enough to make another stop with me at guest services. I had forgot to take care of the TIW card. That taken care of it was now time to say good night.

You can tell I am tired. It almost looks like I might fall over if Katie didn't hold me up. :rotfl2:

I am really glad you got a little park time but sorry it was so painful getting there.

On my way back to CBR, Ashley and I decided I would go to guest services at Port Royal. This was to discuss the room smell as well as inquire about a package that I was told had been sent to me. In my urgency to get out of the room, I did not ask about it prior to leaving the room. I did however note that it had not been there upon check in (as is the case in almost every single delivery I have every had or read about others had)

I got off at Port Royal and quickly found that unfortunately it closes at 11pm and so I was too late.

I decided I would call to the front desk at the customs house once I was back to the room.

In regards to the package, it could not be found by bell services or by guest services and the front desk had no record either. The idea would be to check again at another time to see if it was found.

In regards to the room, the manager offered me something I have never heard of happening before. She offered to personally give me a tour of the resort and available rooms and let me choose whatever one I wanted. I can't tell you how long we were out and about, but I can tell you I had a good time. Here I was with yet another person I didn't know and it was good. We laughed and joked. At one point we rounded a corner and someone had placed a very large fake spider in the corner. She screamed and I had to investigate for her to make sure it was not real... just so we could pass.

Despite the semi meltdown I had earlier, the entire tone of the trip changed for me right then and there. I had been struggling with the notion that I wasn't a person that people could enjoy being around. If even this cm was able to do so, maybe I wasn't so horrid.

I don't know how many rooms we looked at, but I found the room. Unlike the original room, it was a corner room. Unlike the original room, it was a second floor room rather than first floor. We had been in a standard view room. Now since we were very close to Port Royal we were in a preferred room. It also was a water view room. Not a single thing was far from our room.

Next Up: 9/29

What a magical moment, I have never heard of such a thing being offered. That is SO cool and sounds fun to boot!

My experience with packages is that they never have it noted but somehow it is there, if I'm at the desk and insist they go look.

Two great updates, Ann.

Thanks :goodvibes

I was sad only briefly... selfish or not, I had a good time with it being only adults.

It was not a big deal. I pretty much knew most of it had to be done at guest services. So when I had to go there anyway, the cm suggested I just do it all there rather than a little there... and a then a little at guest services.

As for the cm walking me about. It was so nice of her! She went well above and beyond. I had to worry if she had nothing else to do. It was after all after midnight.

UUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that all sounds incredibly painful, slow and to a large degree a huge wast of time.

I will say, the customs house thing is probably a huge deterrent to have me NOT stay there again. It seems a silly waste of time to go there and then "into" the villages. However, once inside there is no need to ever go there again.

I am really glad you got a little park time but sorry it was so painful getting there.

While it was painful for me... and possibly Ashley since she had to hear about it... it wasn't the end of the world. I got to MK and was at least able to spend some time with Katie before it closed.

What a magical moment, I have never heard of such a thing being offered. That is SO cool and sounds fun to boot!

I never have either. As I mentioned to Kathy... I had to wonder if she was bored. Then again, she did say that she knew exactly the smell I was referring to and that it gets into her throat and then she gets sick. So she would not want to be in one of those rooms. I had read before the trip that there were some mold issues at CBR. Really, while it isn't great... I can live with it. It was surprising how many rooms had it. It seemed a lot of first floor rooms were the worst and corner rooms seemed to have a better smell even yet. I wonder about the ventilation in the rooms there. I know that touching down in MCO the humidity is often a shock and things seem wet and sticky... but I almost would say the carpet in the first room seemed damp.

My experience with packages is that they never have it noted but somehow it is there, if I'm at the desk and insist they go look.

They looked all over the place.. Not giving too much away, but I called a number of times. Front desk to luggage services to even housekeeping. No one could find it. :sad2:

Well, you're certainly off and running to a great start! :rotfl: I have to say that on the one trip I made on my own (similar to you I was meeting someone in Disney), I remember feeling like I was getting away with something, sneaking around, not worrying about anyone else's needs but my own!

Sorry about the smelly room...but it definitely sounds like it worked in your favor! I have to say that I have never had bad luck when I've had room issues. Our first stay at the Beach Club I had requested a balcony room. We got one; about as far away from the main lobby elevators as you can be and there was construction happening on the balconies! :scared: This was way back when it was critical that Max be able to take a nap in the afternoons, so after some deliberation, Mark went to the front desk and we were moved to a water view room about three seconds away from the main elevators. I always wonder if we would have fallen in the love with the Beach Club if that hadn't happened that first trip. I've often found that as long as you're pleasant about it, CMs will still go out of their way to help!

Here, too! :wave2:

It is an interesting feeing for sure!

It did work out in our favor. And.. yes, I was nice about it and figured that being sweet and kind was a better route to take. I mean... it isn't like the smell was any one's fault.

I am glad that we got moved. I too wonder if we hadn't if it would have impacted my overall impression of CBR. Maybe I would not have liked CBR as much as I did. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice resort. I just am not a fan of long walks to main buildings.

Alright so apology to Ann, but I have a small rant. I love when Adults.... Grown-Ups.... ADULT people have arguments. Don't talk about not "airing dirty laundry" and then turn around and air it all out to other people. What your basically saying is "don't talk about it, so I can tell everyone first... that way I can color the story exactly how I want it". Then you get to play the "poor pitiful me" card, and everyone thinks your blameless because of that lovely "dirty laundry" that was aired by you and not the actual GROWN-UPS!

Ok so on to the actual update.

So I made sure all was packed before I left for work. I made that one last bank run that I did not get to make the night before because of my Sam's Club adventure. Then it was off to work 6 hours. Had a great day actually and made a little extra Disney spending money. We were so busy there wasn't even a chance to grab anything to eat.

Headed home. Hugged my kiddo and threw all my stuff in Ging's car. We made a quick stop to grab a drink and snack for me to replace my lunch and a bag of for the cooler.

Then we were off. This was our trek for the evening and the next morning.

We drove about two hours. We were both starving, and we know right down the road is one of our favorite stops.
th

This was my meal. (Photos taken from the web.)
Broccoli Cheese Soup
th

Yummy Veggie Sandwich with an awesome avocado spicy paste.
th

Ging has a pasta/sandwich, but I don't remember what they were! :confused3

At some point, we stopped for an energy drink for me and caramel corn for Ging.

Another hour or so later, about an hour out of Tallahassee, we needed a bio break, so it was a quick run into Mickey D's and some of their chocolate chip cookies. (I'm thinking Ann had messaged me a few miles before this that she was off the plane and waiting for her ME bus.)

I think it was around the time we got back in the car that I start getting texts from Ann telling me she's checking in at CBR. Then telling me she's waiting for the internal bus... and waiting... and waiting... Then a "Finally on the bus" text. Next thing I know, I'm getting a "the room smells" text. Straight to "So I'm trying to find the bus stop to go to MK, and I think I'm lost." So I realize it's time to call Ann and figure out what's going on.

So we get on the phone with her speaker. She tells us that there are just buildings and more buildings, and she asked a lady directions who pointed her apparently in the exact opposite direction than where she was suppose to be going. She gets to the lake, finds the main building, and is able to get on a bus. As she's going around, we started discussing the room. She says "The smell isn't that bad". Then "I think the floor was only a little damp". Ging tells her that the Disney CM's would probably appreciate nice Ann making the complaint versus Ginger the Evil Queen doing it the next day when we get there. I think laughing at my mom made her feel a bit better about the hectic last hour that she just had. She kept us a little updated about getting her ticket stuff taken care of, picking up the Halloween tickets , etc.

She gets back to CBR about the same time were finally checking into our hotel in Tallahassee and getting settled in for the night.

It was about 11pm. We hadn't eaten actual food in like 6 hours. We could smell Burger King, but we decided we were tired and done for the night.

Ann texted that she was about to walk around the resort with a manager to look for a new room, but that her phone was at 1% battery. Well I'm a worrier by nature... So even though I was actually exhausted, I waited to make sure that my friend made it safely to some kind of safe room for the night. I think she texted me about an hour an a half later after they had picked a room and her luggage had gotten moved. She seemed happy with our new room, so that was good enough for me. It was about 1am I think when I crashed out... for barely 3 hours.

No need to apologize to me. I understand the frustration you feel. You know I have been on the brink many times myself. (if not over the brink and down the drain and wallowing in some putrid mire that had the oddity to affect my life)

No matter how you describe it... pot calling kettle... or just plan hypocrisy... it is frustrating. Perspective is key though and while we may see something as hypocritical... others can be completely oblivious. Best to just hold your head high and know you live your life in the open and in the best way you can. :goodvibes

Ok so on to the actual update.

:cool1: Not only because I have been anxious to read your account, but because I need to be able to write my next update. :goodvibes

I LOVE Panera!! Such good food.

:rotfl2: I was waiting... and waiting and waiting!!! I hate when I feel like my own two feet can get me somewhere faster. And... I hope I didn' t make it sound like the room was horrid smelling... it was just a tad moldy smelling. Not "hit you in the face" so, but noticeable.

Thanks for being there to help me through my "OMG! Where the heck am I?!!" moment.

So we get on the phone with her speaker. She tells us that there are just buildings and more buildings, and she asked a lady directions who pointed her apparently in the exact opposite direction than where she was suppose to be going

The lake pulled everything together for me. :cool1:

And... I suspect being nice to the cm did help. I tend to act that way first... I can get evil...if pushed. However I usually act nice and accommodating first. Sometimes...often times.. it works well for me. (what is that saying...more flies with honey, bla bla bla?) Sometimes though it comes across wrong and it sets people off in the wrong direction though. That hasn't happened many times though... so I still stick with my "act nice first" game plan. ;)

Where were your road trip munchies???!!! That is one of the few benefits I see to road trips. Growing up when we took a road trip we stocked the car with every snack we could think of.

Ann texted that she was about to walk around the resort with a manager to look for a new room, but that her phone was at 1% battery. Well I'm a worrier by nature... I am so sorry I neglected to text right back. I think the lack of sleep I had over the past couple days had caught up... Add in all the confusion for me... the late night MK visit... and the trek around the resort with the cm. I was not thinking clearly.:(

The night before, I had seriously considered canceling my morning reservation and sleeping in. However, our plans for the week did not include AK for another week. So I bravely woke when my alarm went off and quickly scooted off to.

Arriving there though did not mean I was gong to go into the park. I first had breakfast plans. My reservation was for 8:30 am at RFC (so I had to leave the room about 7:45am... originally, I put that I had the ADR at 7:45. I need to take better notes!!) and I think I could have shown up any time and been seated. It seemed very empty. I was happy to get a table here.

In looking at the menu, I knew that they had a version of what they called tonga toast. :scratchin not sure if it is quite the same and I wasn't sure if I was wanting something that sweet first thing. I opted for this

It was very yummy. Not too sweet and the coffee helped to wake me up. Used my discount to pay... and I was off and on my way in no time.

It was then time to actually enter the park. Su-Lynn and I had decided to meet up at Kilimanjaro safari. I think they had fast passes and I was just going to ride. Steve (her dh) and her sister were not with her when she first got to where I was. This gave us a little time to chat and for her to help me with my technical difficulties regarding my phone. Our dismeet was short but sweet and of course we had to get a picture.

Then we parted ways and I got in line for the safari.

Now, this was an odd ride. I have NEVER gone so fast on this ride. It was kinda funny. Despite how fast the driver went (I am not kidding, he didn't slow for ANYTHING) I got some pictures.

Periodically, I texted with Ashley to find out where they were and to say what I was doing. I let her know I was on a mission to find someone. Now, first I figured it was a long shot. Second, I was doing it to to make someone happy. My dear soon to be dil has been missing her life long bff. This bff is the maid of honor to be at the wedding. She recently became a cast member down in AK. This has been hard on Kimberly. So I thought I would go and get a picture to send to her. Kinda seems like a wild goose chase, yes? Well, I knew what ride she worked at. I figured that was a good starting point. There was still a good chance she wouldn't be working... or around.. .or something. Still as I said - heading to the ride I knew she worked at was a place to start so off to Kali River I went. Imagine how lucky I was that this was in fact the day she was working AND low and behold there she was greeting guests. :cool1: We were able to chat a bit in between her greeting guests and making sure small guests were not too small to ride.

Mission accomplished... I got the pic to send to Kimberly. (now, just disregard the fact you can see up my nose:rotfl:) She won't be there for too much longer. January she comes home.

Next I texted Ashley to ask if she rode this ride.

The response was something along the lines of "not even" She encouraged me to go by myself, but I need moral support to ride that mountain. So I decided it can wait until January. :goodvibes

Instead, I decided to go here.

I love that ride. No one else in my family is a fan, but I really think it ranks up there.

Next UP: 9/29 Part 2

I can only imagine HOW early you have to get up for a breakfast ADR at 7.45 :scared1:

But your breakfast looked very good. And two meets so short after each other. WOW! So sweet you went to find your DIL's best friend.

A fast safari driver, hm, maybe he was one of the poachers. :rotfl2: But I think they don't do that spiel any more. Glad you were able to catch a few photos though. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Ok, so that is early!!! No... I am wrong. My breakfast was at 8:30. I had to leave the room by 7:45.

I am glad to have been able to meet up with those I did. It really adds a bit of magic when you can see some friends. :goodvibes

And yes... THAT DRIVER! He must have been a poacher. :rotfl: He was driving and pointing out things like... "oh and there... and there... and there" I am shocked I was able to get any pictures!

Yikes, even with an "out the door" time of 7.45am that looks early to me. ;) We are soooo lazy on vacation - as you can see in my TR. :rotfl2:

In past trips being up by 7 was a normal thing. On this trip, I think this was one of just a couple during the entire 10 night stay for me :)

Oh that is early after travel day!!!!!!!!! UGH. I am not sure I could have done that with the time change and all. I would not have thought to try breakfast at RFC. It is so loud in there....we tend to avoid it but it's one of Taylor's favorites.

Funny safari!

Mission accomplished... I got the pic to send to Kimberly. (now, just disregard the fact you can see up my nose:rotfl:) She won't be there for too much longer. January she comes home.

Nice DISmeet and fun to see Kimberly's BFF. Why is she coming home in Jan? What a fun ride to work at I'd think. Cute pic.

Wow...I never even considered RFC for breakfast (we aren't fans of their dinners at all), but that breakfast looks fabulous.

That does sound like a fast safari ride, but you got the lion standing up! :goodvibes

So glad you could meet up with your future DIL's maid of honor and send her a picture. :thumbsup2

Other than the occasional "animal" outbursts... it was pretty quiet in there. Not many people at all in there.

Funny safari!

It was interesting, that is for sure!

Mackenzie is coming home in january because her time at WDW will be up. She is in the college program. I know that the girls miss each other so january cant come soon enough. (I see their banter and countdown regarding it on facebook)

It really was not a bad breakfast. I would not have used a dp credit for it, but with the discount it was not too bad.

I am amazed that I got that picture... I bet it would have been better had the driver stopped or even slowed.

So glad you could meet up with your future DIL's maid of honor and send her a picture. :thumbsup2
I had good intentions in doing it. I really wanted to make her day...but it actually made her miss her even more. :sad2:

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to your TR.

That's so nice that the manager got your out of your smelly room and let you inspect other rooms to see which was best. Yay for the upgrade.

Sounds like you had some very nice meets. That's great that you found the cm you were looking for.
