Bags, Busses, and Booze - A Where has all the Rum gone Girls 2013 F&W TR

I'm here and reading along. I know how the race went, but I'm looking forward to the lead-up!

Okay so I'll have to edit this to have my green and font when I get home from this 11 hour day, but here is my lovely evening before the trip.

Day started out at at work for 6 hours at the mall of course. I had a couple pieces of jewelry with me to take to our local Gold market shop just to see if they were worth anything. 15 minutes later, 2 small bracelets and a charm were worth 336$. Score for the trip! Made up a little of the money I'd be missing not working for 8 days! Lol

So end of the day at 4pm I'm thinking okay quick trip to SAMs because it was a marathon cooking night for my crew for while I was gone. And then on to the bank before it closes at 5:30. No problem. Yeah I realized I left my SAMs card at home. Still no problem. Temporary card, grab my few items, hit the bank....... I get in line. One person in front of me and one at the counter. Apparently the little guy behind the counter needed a manger to "check him in", and he had been paging one with no success. 10 minutes go by, two more pages. Another 10 minutes go by, 2 pages and a phone call to the office with no answer. 10 more minutes, and the elderly gentleman in front of me gets on the phone with the corporate office or something thinking it will help. Finally after another 5 minutes a manager shows up, and helps the lady that had been standing with the little associate guy. Then a man walks up from out of the blue while, and of course she's got a line of like 8 people by now. Can you get what she does instead of sending his butt to the back of the line? Yep she helps him all without checking the poor associate in. She finally helps the guy, they don't have the iPod size behind rhe counter he wants. She checks the associate in, and he starts helping the elderly man. His card wouldn't work out at the has pumps for the discount. Um by now the discount wouldn't the worth it for me. So the manager is helping me and keeps poking her nose into the associates business, while he never asked or needed her help. Finally got my member number written on a temp card. Lovely a tiny slip of paper to keep up with. So this entire process has taken an hour. It's now 5:15! I could have run to the bank, gone and gotten my card and my kid and come back. Now I get to speed shop, and hope I can pick my kid up for 6pm. Lovely stupid people.

So 125$ and two hours later and I have my groceries and my kid (no bank run), and I'm home to start cooking. Oh I forget to mention that while I'm cooking we are also being nerds, and I have 4 people coming over to play Dungeons and Dragons.

So 6-7 hours later, we have created and designed our 6 characters for our adventure that we will one day have schedules that line up and we can actually play. Plus taco meat, roast rice and gravy, dirty rice, veggies cut up, and chicken fixed for my two darlings for the week. I was trying to keep the pizza and fast food buying to a minimum.

Couldn't sleep even though it was almost midnight. So I got up and checked my bags again... Which for once I had packed two days early!!!

I would have been having a cow with all that waiting and no one helping the young man. Seriously, and these places wonder why we get aggravated with the lack of customer service.

I like your idea of cooking to keep the fast food ordering to a minimum.

Yeah I mean we all felt sorry for him because he literally couldn't do anything for us until he got checked in by a manger. She just blew in and helped the lady trade out her gallon of milk and then started helping the guy that walked up right then and wanted the iPod. That ordeal took like 10 minutes of her helping him, the associate was never checked in so he could start helping us, and then the guy decided he didn't like whatever size or color iPod they had. But I get told all the time by my wonderful DF that I need to just relax and "don't sweat the small stuff".

Oh yes. The ordered pizza once, and I think went and did Sonic and Mcdonalds each once. I did way better spending the 125$ and doing all the cooking (that 125$ also included muffins that were my breakfast on the trip and Nutragrain bars to snack on in the parks). Not a bad trade off.

So glad you are here, Susan!!!

Man! That was an adventure! I knew some of it.. the cooking the need to go to Sams... but not the waiting. Funny how that is what happens when you have places to be. You get stuck in some line that doesn't even need to be a line... just a line cause silly people.

Oh just wait till we recap the 29th. That wig was an adventure from start to finish!

:lmao::rotfl2:

I am here!

So I completed as much work as I could in the days before my flight and left EVERYTHING else to the night before. At least I had my laundry done which gave me options. Maybe options wasn't such a good idea.

I had one checked bag I would be bringing as well as one carry-on and one personal bag.

As I started to pack my checked case... I realized I had a problem. It was nearly full and I didn't even have any clothing it in yet. :scared1: Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of "essential" items. I mean, a girl needs shoes right? Add in that I needed all my running gear. Well, I just felt very overwhelmed by how little space I was leaving myself for clothing.

As I sat back and looked at the case almost in a completely defeated manner, Steve decided he would help. He took everything out and started to go through it. There was much discussion of "do you need this" and "I really think you can live with out that". In the end he got to the same point and didn't know what to do either.

During points in this struggle, Ashley would text and ask how it was going. She knew that I was overwhelmed. She helped to calm me. I got Steve to leave me alone (since he only added to my frustration by telling me I couldn't bring everything) and I began packing. Seriously and strategically placing what I could in each of the pieces of luggage I was brining.

Soon it was all in each bag. Steve walked in and told me I would never be able to zip the cases. With minimal effort I was able to zip them just fine. He then told me they would split open during the flight. He urged me to take some of it out. I didn't listen to him. I knew I had not had to "force" them closed and felt pretty good about how I had everything packed. I did have Steve weigh the one that would be checked and while it was maybe closer than I would have liked, it was under the limit. :cool1:

I can't tell you how long this process took. I know it was approaching a late enough hour that I worried about getting up the next morning. I bet Ashley will know. She is young after all and has a much better memory than I (who is older) have. I suspect this will be a theme in this report. Ashley will remember where I have NO clue. :rotfl2:

I felt like I was there with you! UGH. I always overpack when I leave it and even then, will miss something.

I do have yet to have a bag actually split open...but I know it's only a matter of time. Darn running shoes take up a LOT of space.

I seriously can't believe you simply stayed in line, that's mind boggling to me. You must have the patience of saint. About 5 minutes in I'd have decided my time was worth the cost difference and hit a different grocery store :rotfl: I hope your family appreciated it!

Holy cats. Mine would have been eating out of the freezer if I had people coming over. Oh heck, they'd eat out of the freezer anyway :lmao:

You are VERY nice to your family! I'm much more of a "fend for yourself" model.

Welcome Cynthia! I'm currently catching up on your and Mary Ellen's Tr from last year. I think we're going to follow yalls model!

It was more of a "I'm already here and ill just get more aggravated if I have to go somewhere else and wait in the 5pm on a Friday and everyone's stopping to pick up something easy to fix lines". One thing I will say for sams is that they always have a ton of registers open. Plus sadly it's the only place in town that carries that Otis spunkmire muffins.

The people being over and me cooking at the same time was partly me feeling guilty for leaving my DF for almost 9 days. He had been trying to get this groups schedules to match up for weeks, and when cooking was the only thing on mine I lost lol!

And sadly I know my crew. My daughter will puppy dog eye her daddy, and say she wants "Old Macdonalds". He would have given in ever day I was gone!

I almost always forget something! Maybe that is why I stress out so about packing...er overpacking.

Well, not giving too much away... lets just say I need new luggage for the January trip. ;)

I would have been tempted to leave... but the way things work for me is that the minute I leave it would start moving... this is what often makes me remain is silly lines.....

I too am impressed with her doing that. Me... I would have and was more of on the "fend for yourself" side.

So we established that I probably didn't get to bed much if at all before midnight.

Flights from the west coast take forever and for this reason, flying during the day often means a very early flight. Add in that I have about an hour drive to the airport and the morning comes way to early. For this trip, this meant I was up in the 4'oclock hour. Ready and hour the door by approximately 5am. We arrived to the airport at about 6am and Steve dropped me off at curb side.

Oddly enough, it was not hard to get myself through the airport. Normally, I have more bags in tow when I have Zoe. So even though I had a checked bag, carry-on and personal bag... it wasn't hard. I got my checked bag turned in and went through security. There was not much of a line and I got through that easy enough to.

Once through security, I had a LOT of time. Normally, I find that we get through security and we have maybe a half hour. Nope, I think I had a good hour + before I would be boarding. I meandered through some shops as I made my way to my gate. Once I approached my gate it was time to get some breakfast. And what is the breakfast of champions?

Well, this of course.

I think I probably took a quick bio break before it was time to board.

I was in B group for one leg and A on the other. Now, this was kinda new to me. I have never been on SW where they had you line up EXACTLY by number. To be honest though, we often have Zoe and so we do the preboard. Still, I can't remember ever lining up in a manner other than by group.

On both the segment from Seattle to Atlanta and the Atlanta to Orlando, I found a window seat. My memory is just not what it use to be and I can't remember if the row on the first segment was completely empty or if it was on the second. (one segment I had to squeeze in past a lady sitting on the end) What I do remember though is that the same lady sat in the middle next to me on both segments and we talked both flights..

When we landed in Atlanta, my phone was nearly dead. I still am not sure what was happening to my phone durning the trip. I updated to ios7 right before I left and it seemed like I couldn't hold a charge for more than a short time. My new friend decided she would go get her lunch/dinner (it was about 4pm Atlanta time when we landed) and then she sat with my phone as it charged while I went to get my food. Then I came back and we ate together. We both had some sort of cheesesteak sandwich. It was pretty good. Having someone help me out like that and having someone to sit with both times kinda made it feel like I wasn't flying alone. :goodvibes

Soon enough, we were landing in Orlando (her home) and we said our good byes. It was odd riding this by myself.

Since it was only about 7pm, it was early enough that I didn't need to retrieve my bags and so I went straight to DME. However first I had to take a picture that Zoe loves to get each trip. Sadly she was not in it. :sad2:

I was feeling a bit melancholy not having at least Zoe with me. So when the DME video started to play I found myself a bit sad... and maybe even a tad selfish.

Luckily, that was not a long lived feeling and soon I was arriving at CBR.

Next Up: 9/28 Part 2

As I said, it wasn't long before I was at CBR. I believe we were the first stop. I also mentioned I felt a tad out of sorts about being there without my family. Not horribly so, but combine that with lack of sleep and the fact I was suppose to be meeting someone. Well, I may have been more stressed than I should have.

I arrived at customs house and with little to no line was checking in. It seemed like a pretty painless process except for the fact I was requesting that I not need to check out and back in the very next day. For those who followed the PTR, you will remember that I had a single night RO on 9/28. It took some doing since the room the next day was not in fact the one I was to have that night. Some phone calls and managers help and voila, I was set to be in the same room.

Next I had to switch windows to go to concierge. I had MNSSHP party tickets, a 2 day base ticket, a TIW card and a paper AP that had to be dealt with. Sadly, after discussing each with the cm, not a single thing was dealt with.

I then walked out to wait for the internal bus system. It wasn't very long before I realized that I had left my KTTWC at the concierge desk.

After retrieving it I went back out and waited....and waited...and waited. :rolleyes1 I had places to be. This is what really set me off on my path to being agitated. Finally the bus came and my agitation was fully motivated by a 20 minute bus ride.

It wasn't too bad for me to find the room. We were in building 15

The room was huge! However it was a tad smelly and did not have a fridge. It was then time for me to head out to to MK.

This is when I almost had a meltdown. While I had found our room easy enough, I couldn't seem to figure out how to catch a bus to MK. I think Ashley could tell (she always seems to be able to sense what is going on in my head) that I was about to have a meltdown. She called and her voice was enough to bring me back down. About that same time I hit the lake. Since the lake was similar to CSR... I was now confident that I could find my way. :faint:

Once at MK, I went to guest services and exchanged my paper ap for my plastic one. I also got the MNSSHP tickets.

FINALLY, it was time to go in and meet up with Katie. It was not hard to find her and soon we were off on our little adventure. It was so nice to have someone to trek around MK.

First she was nice enough to understand that I was hungry. We went to one of the only places open - Pecos Bills. I had the Southwest Chicken Salad. Sorry... no pics. It was actually pretty good. We sat and talked as I ate.

Once we were done, we went directly to what Katie said she knew was my favorite ride. Any guesses? Let me snag a photo from the internet to help

We then went on
images

I believe we tried to hit jungle cruise but it was down for refurb. Not sure I was aware this would be down for some of the trip.

Soon it was time to go. Katie was kind enough to make another stop with me at guest services. I had forgot to take care of the TIW card. That taken care of it was now time to say good night.

You can tell I am tired. It almost looks like I might fall over if Katie didn't hold me up. :rotfl2:

On my way back to CBR, Ashley and I decided I would go to guest services at Port Royal. This was to discuss the room smell as well as inquire about a package that I was told had been sent to me. In my urgency to get out of the room, I did not ask about it prior to leaving the room. I did however note that it had not been there upon check in (as is the case in almost every single delivery I have every had or read about others had)

I got off at Port Royal and quickly found that unfortunately it closes at 11pm and so I was too late.

I decided I would call to the front desk at the customs house once I was back to the room.

In regards to the package, it could not be found by bell services or by guest services and the front desk had no record either. The idea would be to check again at another time to see if it was found.

In regards to the room, the manager offered me something I have never heard of happening before. She offered to personally give me a tour of the resort and available rooms and let me choose whatever one I wanted. I can't tell you how long we were out and about, but I can tell you I had a good time. Here I was with yet another person I didn't know and it was good. We laughed and joked. At one point we rounded a corner and someone had placed a very large fake spider in the corner. She screamed and I had to investigate for her to make sure it was not real... just so we could pass.

Despite the semi meltdown I had earlier, the entire tone of the trip changed for me right then and there. I had been struggling with the notion that I wasn't a person that people could enjoy being around. If even this cm was able to do so, maybe I wasn't so horrid.

I don't know how many rooms we looked at, but I found the room. Unlike the original room, it was a corner room. Unlike the original room, it was a second floor room rather than first floor. We had been in a standard view room. Now since we were very close to Port Royal we were in a preferred room. It also was a water view room. Not a single thing was far from our room.

The manager called on her walkie thing and told someone how we were to be upgraded to this room. I didn't even need to go anywhere to get my key changed. The only hard part of this was lugging my luggage up the stairs to the second floor. She had said she would help, but I after all she had done... I didn't want to take any more of her time.

Once in the room, I got settled in. Ashley had not heard back from me and I think she worried a tad. I really should have texted her. Finally, we both could go to sleep. First though, I set my alarm for one of the few times during this trip that an alarm was set. I considered not. In the past, that might have been one of the only days for me to sleep in. Spoiler alert... this trip I got to sleep in a LOT! :goodvibes

First though, I set my alarm for one of the few times during this trip that an alarm was set. I considered not. In the past, that might have been one of the only days for me to sleep in. Spoiler alert... this trip I got to sleep in a LOT! :goodvibes
