A friend of my daughter's MIL went to CDG Airport a little while back. She flew from Bristol with FlyBe and said when they got to the airport they had to pay £50 "baggage handling" charges to get their luggage.
Is this the norm/a one off/what???.
Hoping someone can explain.

Like many LCC's, this airline appears to make up revenues on fees
A Bag weighing up to 20kgs being placed in the aircraft hold will be charged at a rate of GBP12.00, EUR18.00, CHF26.00 per bag per one way flight.

A discounted rate of GBP7.99, EUR11.00, CHF17.00 per bag per one way flight will be charged if bags are booked up to two hours prior to departure through Flybe.com. No refund will be given on this discounted rate.

Bags can be paid for at the airport at a rate of £12.00 per bag per sector for bags weighing up to 20kgs. Payment must be made in full by either cash or credit/debit card. Split forms of payment are not permitted.

The maximum permissible weight for a single item of checked in baggage is 30kgs.

Flybe Economy Plus passengers may carry bags up to the allowance of 30kgs free of charge.

Excess baggage charges of £9.00 per kilo will be applied at the airport to any passenger carrying over their baggage allowance.

Yes, when we started flying to DLRP I had the choice of flying with Flybe or Air France. Although Flybe initially looked cheaper, by the time I had paid for hold baggage, even with the discount of booking it in online, and pre-booking seats, it worked out dearer than flying with Air France plus the latter give complimentary refreshments.

Although we may use Flybe next year as we've got a couple of complimentary flights. :confused3

How are you travelling to DLRP, SnowWhite_in_4734?

I'm glad I saw this thread ... I looked at my airline booking and saw that to check in bags on the day of travel would cost me £64! (£32 if booked online).

So what I've decided to do is just take 1 large case between my DD and myself instead of a smaller one each as initially planned, so 1 bag each way that I booked online today is working out at £16.

Big difference between £16 and the possible £64!

Most airlines seem to be going the same way with all these mad charges.

Low Cost airlines often work out the same as the normal ones once you add things like baggage on top!

My flights to florida last year are £100 cheaper with thomson than virgin on first look - until you tell them you want to sit with your partner, want to eat adn drink and want to take a bag on. Then it actually ends up more expensive!!

My mental math skills have definitely improved since I started with all these self-booked Disney trips!

haha, me too! I have a notebook I keep and my DLRP and florida pages have columns where I compare package and direct prices....

I can't believe I'm that sad....

Definitely! Ryanair's 0 Euro fare equals Lufthansa's fares when I priced a trip to Dublin.

I will stick with Lufthansa, thank you....

We had a fantastic trip to Dublin last weekend with Ryan Air which cost us
1p each for the flights. There were no airport taxes etc on top of this.
It would have cost us if we had wanted to put baggage in the hold but we took hand luggage only. We had 2 small cases and a back pack between the 3 of us and travelled light- wearing the heaviest and bulkiest clothes.

We also took hand luggage only when we had a trip to Paris (not DLP) last yr although we were with Air France as it saved waiting for cases when we arrived.

If you are only going for a few days its possible to travel light and avoid paying for luggage in the hold but you have to watch your toiletries (must be 100ml or less)
