Bag Check before boarding Monorails/Boat transportation

I recently read a review on the Poly Resort where they are now checking bags before passengers board the monorail. He said it took 90 minutes to get to Magic Kingdom because of this new security measure. Another reviewer also commented on the delay this caused when boarding the boat transportation.

Anyone else have experience with this? It seems like this is going to cause a lot of extra delays as you probably still need to check bags when arriving at the park as well, since not all park guests arrive by Disney transportation.

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I couldn't find a thread on it.

We have been through the bag check at Ploy and the Grand and experienced nothing even close to that type of delay. At park opening near Christmas I can’t speak specifically to that but every other time we went through it only took a few minutes. It took longer for a monorail to arrive.

No, you will not have your bags checked at the park as well. They've moved the security perimeter outwards. If you are taking the monorail from a monorail resort, you are screened before you get on the monorail. It has never taken us more than mere minutes to do that. If you arrive by walking from CR, they have their own security checkpoint on the path between CR and MK. If you arrive by boat, you are screened as soon as you get off the boat. We did this from WL on two trips and it, again, took less than 2 minutes to get through security. IMHO, there are much longer lines at the other parks where they still do the checks right outside the gates.

We travel almost exclusively at the busiest times of the year. We've never waited more than 5 minutes at the bag check at monorail resorts. As another poster pointed out, it takes longer for a monorail to arrive. If you arrive at bag check just as the monorail is arriving, you might miss it and need to wait for the next one...which, as any kid who is really, really eager to get to MK will tell you, can feel longer than it is.

I think it depends on timing. I was on the monorail this Dec. and when we pulled into the Poly one evening I noticed a huge back up at their bag check - based on the 2 couples who did make it into our car I think the Aloha dinner show had just let out. We never ran into a crowd like that leaving the GF.

Thanks all. Happy to hear that there's no additional check at the park entrance. :-)

We stayed at the Poly this past summer. The longest line we waited in due to bag check before the monorail was maybe 5 minutes. Most of the time we just walked right up. I don't remember ever missing a monorail because of the bag check. I can't speak of waits at peak times though. It was nice not having to go through back check at the park entrance.

We went the last week of August and stayed at GF. We usually walked right up to the monorail stop to check bags...maybe twice there was more than one person in front of us. There was no bag check again at MK, we just walked right down the ramp and to the gates to scan our magic bands.

In fact, the lines to check bags before getting on the monorail were much, much shorter than those getting into parks where we didn't ride the monorail (AK was the worst for bag check lines).

How long does the show last?

I will try to keep this in mind for evening monorail use.

So if your getting off resort monorail/boat you don't have a bag check at gates right?
If your getting off bus or coming from epcot monorail or TTC you have bag check at gates

If you're getting off the monorail or the ferry, no bag check - because it was done at TTC or at resort before you boarded.

If you're getting off a resort boat, bag check is on the dock or near the exit from the dock.

If you're getting off a bus, bag check is at the broad exit area from the bus stops, before guests mix with those from the ferry or boats.

If you're walking from CR, bag check is at the end of the walkway before it joins the wider MK entrance plaza.

I like having it split up and further away, and if you are coming from a monorail resort it’s typically less of a wait compared to the old way when everyone including the bus and parking people went through the same bag checks. Actual entry w/ the tap and go feels less chaotic and quicker w/ no nearby crowd milling around the former bag check tables.

I agree! In March (right before they started the new system) we waited an hour or more to go through security (after arriving by ferry) and then through the tapstiles. The lines for the tapstiles were insanely long and slow. When we returned later in the year, it was wonderful to see the entrance plaza uncluttered by long lines in both places - yes, it even seemed as if guests went through the tapstiles more quickly!
