Bad news on the DIS Meets videos

I've given this a lot of thought and it looks like the DIS Meets 2004 video will be the last one that I do, if I can finish it at all. There's been a few things that have led me to this decision.

The DIS Meets 2003 video was shown at Towncrier's Memorial Day picnic. In all the posts I've read about the meet, I only saw a brief picture of the video. I didn't hear anyone mention that they saw it or even liked it. It bothered me a bit, but in the end, I got over it because I don't need my ego stroked like that.

I'm starting to get some paying video editing gigs and I have to start dropping some things because I'm running out of time. I would have made time for the DIS Meets video, but I think the last thing I will mention really changed my mind.

The final decision not to continue with the DIS Meets video project is that it has been extraordinarily difficult to obtain video and pictures from people. I have to ask the same people again and again to send me video or pictures and I still haven't gotten them. I made a promise to myself that if I didn't see any videos or pictures in my mailbox by today that I would decide not to continue with the project. All I found were bills and junk mail in my mailbox today. Chasing people around like this and begging people for material has really sucked the fun out of doing the project. I'll probably end up pulling photos off the board, but downloading hi-res photos from the DIS on a dialup connection is quite painful, believe me.

I hate to not continue with this project. I thought that people would be dying to get their photos and video into the project based on the response that I've gotten. I guess I was mistaken.

I do want to thank everyone who has supported my video projects in the past. I very much appreciate all your assistance, contributions, and support. I wish things didn't have to end like this.

So we will no longer see critters on my head, Ghostbusters shaking their money makers, or people tasting Beverly.

:(

As one who has seen your work in the past...Thanks Barry for taking the time....

Thanks you much, Barry, for many memories, and always so well done. I'll miss them. :(

Barry,
I saw the 2003 video.....someone brought it to a MI meet last spring.
I apologize for not telling you how much I enjoyed seeing it before now.
You do a great job & I wish you much luck on your new jobs:D

Having tried my hand at a couple of short videos, I cannot imagine how many countless hours you have devoted to these DIS videos that you have produced up to this point. Truly a labor of love. Your efforts have not been in vain. Your videos have provided a wonderful retrospective on some of the best times that we have shared together as DISers. I have enjoyed each and every video that you have produced and will the copies that you have faithfully sent to me each year. Take a break Barry. You have earned it.

Great news about the paying video editing gigs. Congrats.

Thanks Barry for the great videos. It did provide lots of joy to many:

I am sorry to hear this. You sent my DS a DVD in one of the exchanges earlier this year, and your DVD was the #1 reason we planned a trip to Disney this October. We have enjoyed watching it!! Good luck with your future jobs ( we voted for your entry a few days ago). Thanks again for the great memories

I'm sorry Barry. But I am glad that you are pretty busy. :)

:( Sorry Barry. I've thoroughly enjoyed your 2003 DIS meet DVD and the Texas trip DVD. Thank you again for sharing your creativity with us. It was nice to meet you at the Ballpark earlier this year. Even though it might not feel like it sometimes, many of us really do appreciate your efforts. I love looking at the 2003 DVD and seeing video of all my friends who just live way too far from me :). We'll miss the DVDs this year, but like Towncrier said, enjoy a well-earned break.

For those who don't know what a DIS meet is, there is a page about them here: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=25 .

Also for those of you who didn't know about the DVD's you must have missed Barry's threads like this http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=525151 and this http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=587435

Ghostbusters shaking their money makers,

The HORROR Barry, the horror!! I'm only teasing. You know I enjoyed the GB section of the video...you know how many times I've watched and laughed? Good times...good times... :teeth: Can't get myself to watch Infestation at all...eeeeeeek!!!!!! Sorry Barry, after the Mummy AP Event, you should know why....

Sorry things have been difficult for the video peoject especially with not enough material...I know how that goes. :(

Barry, I want to DITTO many of the replies here! It was the DIS-CON-I tape that I saw at PatrickIL's summer DIS-Meet that made me jealous (and determined) to attend DISCON-II. You also sent me a tape of DISCONII, which I LOVE! And because I sent you some blank tapes (I think), or sent a 'contribution', you also sent the 2 coaster tapes, which my DS just LOVED watching! Of course, he would have preferred MAKING the tapes WITH you! ;) He is QUITE the movie-maker himself, but no where near the quality job I've seen from you! :smooth:

I am very happy to hear you're getting a PAYING job, doing something you do SOOO WELL! ::yes:: I am sorry tho that the annual DISCON/meet tapes will end. :( You deserve the break, and the chance to make real money, but I wish you had the resources to continue as well.

My thanks to you, for creating & making & sending me some great memories that I'll now NEVER forget! :sunny:
