After reading all the bad food reviews i'm verry confused on where to eat.
I have chosen to eat at the following Boatwrights Tusker house Mama Melrose be our guest 50's prime time 1900 park fare Akershus, liberty tree taven and crystal palace. I have free dinning so the cost isn't a factor. I'm not a PICKY eater as long as the place is clean and half way decent service i will be okay with. I think that some times guest get too pickypirate:

You really cannot always go by the reviews, everyone's taste is different. There has been a few places that come highly recommended by many ppl that we didn't like & a few places most ppl hate that we like..

Just go with what you have. One person's treasure of a restaurant is another's must-avoid. You may very well enjoy each of those. I've eaten at CP (enjoyed it), Akershus (breakfast with princesses and loved the cheesy potatoes), Mama Melrose (mehh), and 1900 PF (good buffet with excellent character interaction). Others have had less than stellar experiences, but as the other poster said, tastes are different. Citrico's is largely touted as one of the top signature restaurants, but I've had lousy experiences there. Go, enjoy, and report back! :thumbsup2

I would just review the menus and pick a restaurant that appeals to you. You won't know if YOU like it until you try. Everyone has different tastes. We have eaten at places people hate and we have LOVED it, and vice versa, hated places people rave about. It's all about personal preference.

I don't regret eating at places we have ended up not liking, because at least we tried it and know for ourselves. :goodvibes

Also, people bring a ridiculously high set of expectations to Disney, and when you combine that with prices that reflect the fact that you are eating in a theme park it gets a little out of control on the negative. Seriously -- if this many people were this discerning about food and service, places like Applebee's and TGIFs and Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesday's (etc., etc.) would have gone out of business a long time ago!

We've been to WDW 10 times. For 8 of those trips, we've been on the deluxe dining plan. Sure, we've had some meals that stood out as better than others, but we've never been served food we couldn't eat or really didn't like. Some restaurants we return to year after year, some we try once and say -- eh, not for us.

Finally, whenever giving feedback people are always much more motivated by a negative experience to complain (rings true no matter what kind of online reviews you read!) than by a good experience to compliment.

As others have said, review the menus, go with what looks good, and enjoy!

Like others said just go with what looks good to you. Some meals are better than others but you will not know unless you try for yourself. We leave in 2 days and are doing some old favorites and trying a few new ones. I just check out the menue's and hope for the best!!

Perfectly stated. :thumbsup2

I ate at 50s Prime Time for the first time a few months ago and absolutely loved it. I think it is now one of my favorite restaurants at Disney. I highly recommend the fried chicken. We also ate at Be Our Guest. I was so excited to be there that it wouldn't have mattered what I was eating. I had the pork chop and thought it was delicious, but the real star is the desserts!
I always go into a new restaurant with realistic expectations and I don't ever read reviews!

Yep. I got a bit worried about things I read here but then realized that I'll probably be fine, because I LIKE eating at places like that.

Totally agree.

I always pick based on a unique experience and schedule fit/convenience.

Oh -- exactly! Regular places, regular food, reasonable service, "something for everyone" kinds of menus. I actually think that the food at WDW is usually step above these in terms of freshness and their willingness to accommodate special requests, and just light years beyond what you'd find at any other theme park anywhere. What I meant was that these kinds of places couldn't stay in business if as many people who complain about each and every minute thing at WDW restaurants also brought that same standard to the every day kind of places they frequent at home.

I've had GREAT meals at two of your choices that get slammed regularly: Boatwrights and Mama Melrose! My family really enjoyed both!

I hope it all works out!

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm going to stay with my choices and have a great time

I felt the same before my trip. I read a bunch of reviews before we left and there was some truth in the negative reports. We weren't starving by any means (especially being on Deluxe Plan), but we did experience a few lackluster meals (1900 being the worst of them and CRT just being okay - you are paying more for atmosphere and being in the castle).

We came back Saturday from WDW and there was really good food and really bad food. No matter what you pick, there will be critics who say one is better than the other, so don't worry about it too much. Just go with what you think your family will enjoy the best and try a different place next time you visit WDW. :)

Boatwrights was really really good and so was Liberty Tree Tavern (grilled salmon over arugula salad was amaze balls and so was the crab dip!).
Tusker House was very good and so was Akershus - loved the berries, nuts and lox on the cold buffet.

I didn't eat at Crystal Palace or 50's or BOG (line was too long).

We did eat at 1900 (2 times). Once for dinner and once for breakfast. It wasn't the best meal to us (we are not picky) but, taste is subjective. We tried sampling many things and although there was lots of quantity, there was a lack of flavor and quality throughout the meal. We ate there primarily so my daughter could meet the characters without us having to stand in line. I figured that we could take care of 2 things at once (eating and character meet and greets) but if i could do it over again, I would skip 1900 and just pick table service that wasn't a buffet.

Places we ate that were really really really good (that weren't on your list) Kona Cafe, Ohana, Chefs de France and Whispering Canyon.

No matter what you pick, I hope you have a great time! :)

I have eaten at the following - Tusker House (great breakfast buffet and character interaction; going there in one week OOP per request of all 4 of my kids two of which are now teenagers); Mama Melrose (okay Italian, better than Tony's Town Square IMO); 50's Prime Time (love the fried chicken, the milkshakes and the vibe); Akershus for dinner (heard bad things about this one but actually enjoyed it (food and princesses) (as did all adults in party; kids not so much)); Crystal Palace (breakfast good with good character interaction (Tusker House better on both counts though)(dinner, meh; thought it was okay; kids didn't like it). Boatwrights I haven't eaten in, but it is in the resort where I stayed and it looked good and always had a long line. I am sure you will be fine with what you've got! Have fun!

Tusker - love this place!
50's - cant go wrong, pretty decent food and antics
1900 - dinner? I didnt care for it, but i know many who loved it. Bfast was way better, although still not one of my faves. Lol.
LTT - we always loved it here
CPalace - one of our faves

Dont pay attention to the reviews. Go and judge for yourself. You will see negative reviews for every restaurant in disney. Take it with a grain of salt. I dont particularly pay attention to reviews where service was a major issue. Because I know that everyone has an off-day, even servers. Also think about this, what one person thinks is terrible service, another person might not even be phased by it. Get what im saying?

The only meal that I have ever considered truly horrible was at Pinocchio's Haus, it was bland, dry, and small for the price (even for WDW). Other than that there are a few that I think are just alright but seem worse because of the cost. I find most of the restaurants to be pretty good to excellent (HS & MK having less appealing food IMHO). It seems to me that the hype of WDW makes us all expect more than we should because of this perfect image we have in our minds of all things Disney. I say, try what you like, if it is terrible speak with a manager or make note not to return in the future.

I don't think guest are picky. I don't do free dining so for me cost is a factor. but the bigger issue for me is that vacations are special so I hate paying for over priced mediocre food. Sorry but I don't think expecting italian food to have flavor is exactly "picky".

That being said, I don't go in with high expectations for disney. They aren't interested in delivery quality food, basically they want to get the biggest profit margin out of each plate of food that they can.

So if I go to a disney restaurant and the foods cold and my soda flat I pretty much chalk it up to that's what they can get away with and I'm never surprised.

I don't eat much on site anymore, this last trip probably ate on site more than I ever have in the last 5 years simply because we took guest with us. If I do, I try and stick with signature restaurants. I guess the only favorite I have is Via Napoli and I do like the sandwiches at Earl of sandwich. Park restaurants are just mediocre IMO. not bad but definitely in no way worth the money they charge.
Crystal Palace for my family is $40 a head. for that food? Seriously? lol.

I refuse to step inside Tonys town square or Ohana's ever again. Ohana's is probably the only one I've written a negative report about and it was so bad we were given a full refund on our meal.
