Want to go behind the scenes at Animal Kingdom? You might want to take the Backstage Safari Tour.

On this tour you will go behind the scenes and see the veterinary hospital, foraging areas and feeding pens and learn about ongoing animal behavioral studies. You will also see the ways that Disney is meeting the challenges of conservation, landscaping and animal nutrition and medicine.

You will not see or touch any animals on this tour.

The cost is $65. If you have an annual pass or if you are a member of the Disney Club your cost will be $55.25. In addition to the cost of the tour park admission is also required.

You can participate in this 3 hour tour on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Reservations are required and you can make your reservation by calling 407-939-8687. Your credit card will be charged at the time you make your reservation. You must cancel a reservation 48 hours prior to the scheduled date.

The tour begins at 8:45 am. at the Conservation Station. You will enter the park and walk to the train station. Tell the attendant that you have a reservation for the Backstage Safari Tour and he/she will shuttle you to the Conservation Station.

I did this tour and it was excellent........There is a chance to see an animal if it's in the hospital. We just missed a couple of the elephants in their barn.

We did see birds and reptiles tho........

Also discovered a cool experience that is very affordable this trip($30) called Caring for Giants, which takes you behind the scenes to see the elephants from a close up spot and learn more about their care from a keeper, and conservation efforts from an African representative. DD wants to be a vet, and this was one I could afford, so surprised her with it! It was only an hour, so didn't take up too much park time, since we only had one day in each park this trip. Got many great pics and learned the one with short tusks was named Luna like our dog! Found out at the end that all the fees went to conservation efforts, which was nice as well. Meet up is right by the Safari and it is done several times throughout the day - we did 1:30, and saw many elephants.
