here's a BIG vote for LL Bean...my kids have the plaid deluxe...which was recently on sale 50% off...keep an eye on the site, but the sales seemed to be a few weeks ago.

They are awesome bags...I regret not getting one for myself for travel as a carry on.

my kids have LLBean Backs - i think for about 3 years now - still look great - they have the lunch bags from Landsend and they've held up well for the year! I'm sure u can't go wrong with either - i guess whichever u get a better deal from - they both have Great Customer Service

I just bought the Deluxe Plus and lunch bag one in red camo yesterday from LLBean with a free shipping code (3028482). I search all the site and backpacks (even posted a similar thread on the Community board ) and decided to go with LLBean.

Another vote for Lands End backpacks. We bought one for my oldest son 3 years ago and it's still in excellent shape. The only reason why we replaced it last year was because he outgrew the smaller one and needed the larger one. I agree with the PP in that you will likely not go wrong with either brand. Just find which one has the best sale going on!!!!

I purchased DS16 a big student Jansport and for DS11 a samsonite. First time trying that but they make great luggage!

I'm hoping for a good sale on the deluxe backpacks soon. I bought my daughter a deluxe ll bean backpack a month ago (in a lime floral color) for only $22 & free shipping. My son is pretty much stuck on having a dark blue backpack from there so I'm waiting on it to come down from the $32 that was on the site.

LL Bean. That's all my 9 year old has ever used. We have bought two since he started school, and he's going into the 4th grade. I was going to buy another for this year, but his current one is still in pretty good condition.

FYI, our local TJ Maxx got in a HUGE shipment of Jansport backpacks this week. I got a Jansport my junior year of high school, carried it throughout hs and college, and it's STILL in good condition. It's over 15 years old!

DS has both a LE and a Bean backpack----comparable, and both excellent quality and they are like new even after 3-4 years. My girls both just got new Bean packs/lunchbags.

My kids have Land's End backpacks and they still look new! I think you can't go wrong either way though. I say, go with the store where they have a better sale and/or free shipping!

Another idea if you have boys...my son got a Tony Hawk backpack from Kohl's three years ago. It still looks like new! We got it half off. It was more than worth the investment!
