Back to Where It Began - 10th Anniversary Trip Report-Dec 2007 - Pics Added 4/7

The least-cheesy part of the Great Movie Ride was the "scene" on the Nostromo from Alien... it doesn't look as dated as the rest of the ride.

I would have liked to see the Stunt Spectacular, but there were more interesting things to see elsewhere. When we bring the girls in October, about the only thing I'd see us going on would be the new Toy Story ride, if it's done by then. There were rumors about updating Star Tours, but even that's gotten old and stale. MGM is dead to me at this point.

I think DD4 will want to see the Playhouse Disney show as well, since it will be updated with the new shows by then. She still loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny. And I know that DD6 will want to see Beauty and the Beast again. It's a tradition!

Just spreading the love ...

Thanks, DM, but I asked for Merlot, remember?

I'll have what you're having Jodi!

Now I'm heading off to bed so it looks like I'll have to catch up on your latest post tomorrow. Sorry I didn't get to it today

Sorry Blue, it started last week.

D'oh :sad2:

i am a reality t.v. addict. i need help...haha.

I am a DIS addict and I need help ;)

American Idol was good, I think. I felt bad for that Josiah kid. I guess it's back to living in his car for him... :sad2:

I know, did you see him cry? I just wanted to give him a big hug. His last performance before getting booted was horrible :guilty:

I've got to pick up 91 cases of Girl Scout cookies this morning and get them separated for the girls in our troop this afternoon. If I can get that done in a timely manner, I'll work on my next update. Cross your fingers....

Are you a leader Jodi?

Ip-Dip! Survivor started on the 7th.

Ahem - no need to point it out again :headache:

But remember it takes like an extra week or so for everything to finally get to Canada ... I think because it's like a 3rd world country or sumpin.

:rotfl:

That's because you're close to the border and you hack into our countrie's sophisticated TV programming! Blue is in the Canadian hicks somewhere ...

:lmao: Don't forget to bring your fiddle when you come this summer ;)

I forgot. Canada is still analog. :rotfl2:

This coming from Mater.....

::yes:: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Especially them Canucks living in the deep woods next to rivers!

Lessa........a little help here please

Finally, we arrived at MGM and were greeted with this.

You're so lucky, I'd love to go when the Christmas decorations are out :)

By the time we got to MGM, I believe it was around 4:00 or 4:30pm. Fantasmic was at 8:00 pm, so we had a few hours to kill. Honestly, this isn’t in my top two Disney parks. In fact, I don’t know if we could actually find enough to do to spend an entire day at MGM, so the three hour time crunch didn’t really faze us at all.

It's on the bottom of our list also but there are a few things I wouldn't want to miss.

We made our way down the street, looking at the lights, thinking, “wow, this is pretty cool.” Well, we failed to realize that the show hadn’t even started yet! Just seeing the sheer number of lights strung onto the buildings was amazing. Of course, when the announcer came on saying that the show would be starting soon, we looked at each other and thought, “there’s more?”

Where are the pictures????

Next up was a leisurely stroll down Sunset Boulevard to our first ever Fantasmic show! I couldn’t wait! I had heard so many wonderful things about this show. We weren’t sure how the girls would do with the villains last year, so we decided to wait and preview it before taking them.

Oh I can't wait to hear what you thought of it!

We got in line at about 7:20 pm for the 8:00 show (gotta love off season) and at about 7:30 pm an announcement came over the loudspeaker that they were experiencing some technical difficulties and weren’t sure if Fantasmic would happen or not!!!!

Oh no, I hope you were able to see the show!

K - finally caught up - when's the next update? :teeth:

I'm not the Girl Scout troop leader, but I did volunteer to be the cookie mom for our troop. I'm good at organizing, creating spreadsheets, etc. to keep track of money and other numbers. However, if you make me in charge of coming up with activities and crafts to keep 9 first grade girls happy and involved??? That would be my worst nightmare! :scared1:

Even back in the day when I thought about becoming a teacher, I was always thinking high school. I love my own kids, but I don't have a creative bone in my body when it comes to that kind of stuff. Put me in front of a computer with numbers to crunch and I'm happy! :surfweb:

:rotfl2: I was a brownie leader one year and really enjoyed it but we had a "head" leader who came up with our duties - much easier.

Crunching numbers? That would drive me bonkers :crazy2: :lmao:

Where are the pictures????

We didn't take any pics of the lights, only video. I need to figure out how to post video. Maybe I can task DH with that tonight (while I'm scrapbooking)! I'm going to work on our trip pics tonight. I can't wait! Six hours of uninterrupted scrapbooking time with no kids!!

Oh I can't wait to hear what you thought of it!

Oh no, I hope you were able to see the show!

K - finally caught up - when's the next update? :teeth:

You'll just have to wait and see if we got to see the show.... :rolleyes1

DH is taking DD6 to a Daddy/Daughter dance for Brownies on Saturday night, so I should have some time to work on another update then. At this rate, I'll be done before Buzz gets to day 5 in his trippie (and yours too!) :rotfl:

Thanks again for reading along!

Sorry... that's just me. But I do have about five cases of cookies sitting in my office right now. Do you need any??? I'd be happy to ship some up north... :woohoo:

I totally agree with you about the APs!! They should be EXTRA special, and much more durable.

Did you guys see Beauty and the Beast? Do you enjoy the thrill rides like RnRC or Tower of Terror? Lights, Motor, Action? These are the reasons I go to the Studios... not my favorite park, either, but I do love those rides/attractions/ shows!!

There IS a movie at the end of One Man's Dream... I wonder why you weren't directed to it...:confused3

Waiting to see if Fantasmic is a go....:surfweb:

As Buzz wrote earlier, DH is not a roller coaster fan, so we skipped the thrill rides this night. I did, however, return to MGM on Saturday morning while Eric was doing his train tour. You'll just have to come back to see what I rode and what I didn't ride.

Beauty & the Beast has become a tradition for DD6 and I to see. On the last two trips, DH has taken DD4 back to the room for a nap and DD6 and I have stayed to watch the parade and B&B. We skipped it this trip, but I'm sure we'll hit it again in October.

As for the stunt shows, we just didn't have time to do them. We may try to fit them in this fall, but I'm not a huge fan of that kind of thing. I think DH would have liked it though.

I'm not sure about One Man's Dream... we got to the end and there were some doors there, but they were closed and the CM standing there didn't say anything about the next show starting anytime soon. And I didn't hear any noise behind the doors either, so maybe the movie wasn't showing that night?? It was strange though. Maybe next time??

I'm like this too Jodi. Thank God DH is a teacher and has all those creative ideas. It came in really handy when he was home with DS for 10 days last summer because DS had the chicken pox.:scared1:

When we last left our fearless couple, they had just heard an announcement stating that Fantasmic may or may not go on as scheduled, due to technical difficulties. There was not a raindrop in sight, but yet, the Disney execs wanted to make us all squirm.

Of course, I immediately started thinking about our plans for the next four nights and whether or not we could make it back to another show. After determining that Fantasmic might just have to wait until another trip, the announcement we had been waiting for came – the show was on! They opened the theater at about 7:40pm and we found great seats. We were in the middle section, about halfway back. The theater itself was only about half full.

While waiting for the show to start, a family came in and took the seats next to us. The matriarch of the family started asking people if they wanted popcorn, etc. and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Finally, one of the younger men in the group grabbed the money this woman offered and made the concession run. Well, while listening to this conversation, we snuck a glance at the family and who did we see??

Spinaltap.jpg

That’s right! It was Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap! Or at least someone who wanted to be him. Of course, it’s almost 25 years too late for that, right? Eric took that picture with his cell phone while attempting to be inconspicuous. I’m not sure it worked. If you look at the woman sitting next to him (his wife?), it sure looks like she knows what we’re thinking.

The other thing I noticed while waiting for the show to start was the high number of blinking light necklaces in the audience, including two of them on the two woman right next to me. I was hoping that they would turn them off before the show started, but that was not to be. Instead, I sat through the show with my hand on the side of my face, so that the blinking lights wouldn’t distract from my enjoyment of the show. The older man sitting in front of me turned around to ask if I thought she would turn “that darn thing” off when it started. I told him that I sure hoped so, but I had a feeling that we weren’t going to be that lucky. Sure enough, she left it on the whole time. I can’t believe it didn’t annoy her while trying to watch the show. Oh well, some people just don’t think about others.

Eric & I enjoyed the Fantasmic show immensely. It was getting a tad bit chilly by this time at night, so I was glad we didn’t sit too close to the front. I wouldn’t have wanted all that mist blowing on me! After watching it, I think we’ll try to take the girls next October when we all come back. Even though there are some scary spots, as long as we sit near the back, I think DD4 won’t get too scared. Plus, they’ll love seeing all the princesses dancing with their princes.

After making our way out of the theater we debated what to do. On the one hand, Eric had the train tour at 7:30 in the morning, so we were going to have to get up really early. Plus, we were tired from traveling. But, on the other hand, we were at Disney World and Epcot was open until 12:30 am that night.

What to do…….what to do…..

Plankie didn't like the studios much. But just wait until we get to Epcot! He had a ball in the World Showcase...

:rotfl2: I really don't know what is funnier ... that guy or that woman totally eyeing the phone camera! :rotfl2:
