When we last left our fearless couple, they had just heard an announcement stating that Fantasmic may or may not go on as scheduled, due to technical difficulties. There was not a raindrop in sight, but yet, the Disney execs wanted to make us all squirm.
Of course, I immediately started thinking about our plans for the next four nights and whether or not we could make it back to another show. After determining that Fantasmic might just have to wait until another trip, the announcement we had been waiting for came the show was on! They opened the theater at about 7:40pm and we found great seats. We were in the middle section, about halfway back. The theater itself was only about half full.
While waiting for the show to start, a family came in and took the seats next to us. The matriarch of the family started asking people if they wanted popcorn, etc. and wouldnt take no for an answer. Finally, one of the younger men in the group grabbed the money this woman offered and made the concession run. Well, while listening to this conversation, we snuck a glance at the family and who did we see??
Thats right! It was
Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap! Or at least someone who wanted to be him. Of course, its almost 25 years too late for that, right? Eric took that picture with his cell phone while attempting to be inconspicuous. Im not sure it worked. If you look at the woman sitting next to him (his wife?), it sure looks like she knows what were thinking.
The other thing I noticed while waiting for the show to start was the high number of blinking light necklaces in the audience, including two of them on the two woman right next to me. I was hoping that they would turn them off before the show started, but that was not to be. Instead, I sat through the show with my hand on the side of my face, so that the blinking lights wouldnt distract from my enjoyment of the show. The older man sitting in front of me turned around to ask if I thought she would turn that darn thing off when it started. I told him that I sure hoped so, but I had a feeling that we werent going to be that lucky. Sure enough, she left it on the whole time. I cant believe it didnt annoy her while trying to watch the show. Oh well, some people just dont think about others.
Eric & I enjoyed the Fantasmic show immensely. It was getting a tad bit chilly by this time at night, so I was glad we didnt sit too close to the front. I wouldnt have wanted all that mist blowing on me! After watching it, I think well try to take the girls next October when we all come back. Even though there are some scary spots, as long as we sit near the back, I think DD4 wont get too scared. Plus, theyll love seeing all the princesses dancing with their princes.
After making our way out of the theater we debated what to do. On the one hand, Eric had the train tour at 7:30 in the morning, so we were going to have to get up really early. Plus, we were tired from traveling. But, on the other hand, we were at Disney World and Epcot was open until 12:30 am that night.
