So i just picked up the BTTF 25th Anniversary Bluray box set and noticed a very cool special feature is included.

from the Box:

Back to the Future: The Ride!

Includes both lobby and Preshow Videos

The Institute LIVES!! And here Krusty thought he'd get away with stealing the deed out from under Doc Brown. :rotfl:

I loved it when Doc Brown rode his bicycle past The Simpson's yelling 'RIDE THIEFS'.....:lmao:

But it's still open! ....in Japan...

:duck:

True. Due to financial and temporal difficulties in the US, Doc was forced to close his US-based Institutes and sell them to Krusty. The Institute thrives in Japan because Future Technology is a popular field of study. :cool2:

No way!! I just picked up the blu ray box set last week but still haven't opened it yet. This is good to know!

I grew up in the 80's and the BTTF movies are my favorite movies of all time. I can remember riding the ride at USF over and over again because it was soo cool to sit in the Delorian with the Flux Capacitor! It was a sad day when it closed. It's even more sad it was replaced with the Simpsons. Yuk! I wish they would bring it back. The technology they are using on the Simsons ride is much the same as they used on the BTTF ride.

The problem was is the ride was dated. The Simpsons is still on TV, even though it's been around for 20 years. Many teens aren't even aware of BTTF being such a big hit since they were born after the movies came out.

Plus, the year 2015 is rapidly approaching and looks nothing like the ride portrays, so it would really seem odd at that point.

Well It's confirmed.

I watched it last night under the Special Features on the BTTF3 disc.

All the video is actually presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio. I kinda expected as much for the preshow and queue videos, but I was slightly disappointed about the ride video being presented that way.

As for the ride itself, They superimpose a little dashboard from the ride vehicle on the bottom of the screen. This allows them to display the in-car video from Doc and Biff. It also includes the time displays that were in the car.

ultimately it isn't too bad. My only real complaint (Besides not having a 8-person Delorean in my living room to experience the movement of he attraction) is the ride film being in 4:3 and not widescreen. Considering the size of the actual attraction screen, I'm pretty sure some of the side details were lost with the 4:3 conversion.... but as far as taking a huge simulator experience using a giant Omnimax screen and putting it into a format you can view in your home, It's not a bad effort.

I would've thought since it was for an IMAX dome it would've been at least 1.7:1 and reformatted but alas.

Haven't gone blue ray. :( Are these extras also on the 25th anniversary DVD set?

And how did I miss this part when we went on the Simpsons??

that's what I was kinda thinking too. copyright date at the end was 2008, so I'm guessing it may have been put together for a DVD release or something at some point and added to the 25th anniversary set.

I honestly didn't look at the DVD set, but it could be there. My recommendation, take a look at the box set listings of the special features. On the Bluray it was listed on the box, so I'm assuming if it's a common special feature they'd list it on the DVD box as well.

As for how you missed it, it can be pretty easy actually. It's during the Queue line video, so depending on how long you waited in line for Simpsons you may not have had it come thru the loop. It could've also played while you were not in a easy Queue TV viewing location, or you could've just not payed attention while crowd watching or talking to your party.

Update: here's a listing of the extra features - the ride is footage is on both the DVD and blu-ray box sets: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/06/28/back-to-the-future-trilogy-blu-ray-dvd/

The ride footage was on the last DVD release in 2008, so I have to imagine it's on the new DVD box set as well. I have the blu-ray set and it's amazing. I've already watched all 3 movies and the ride video twice. :woohoo:

The ride was definitely dated...but it's funny, most of my friends have small kids, and they love the BTTF movies. I mod a movie message board, and when the first movie was back in the theaters a few weeks ago, they were all going because they weren't old enough to have seen it in the theaters the first time. I went to that re-release too, and it was crazy! Totally sold out and you couldn't even hear parts of the movie because the crowd was so into it. It was great...it's been my favorite movie ever since I saw it on opening weekend in 1985. :thumbsup2

When I was at the park a few weeks back I got a picture with Doc in front of the DeLorean, and thanks to the awesome TLinden16 telling him how I had driven her up a wall looking around for the car, Doc borrowed my camera took pictures of the flux capacitor and the time circuits inside the DeLorean. It was awesome, one of the highlights of my trip.

We had express pass, so maybe we didn't even stand in the queue?! But I missed Doc on the video.

I also missed the DeLorian! I was told it was near the Mummy, but forgot to look for it when we were there and didn't think of it again until we were leaving the park at closing. Good thing I have some nice pictures from US California.

I was at Target tonight and couldn't even find the DVD set. I walked and walked through the DVD area. I can't believe they didn't seem to have it.

I wish the movie had played in theaters here recently. That would have been so fun!

We still have >4 years to "fix" the future. Bring on the hoverboards!

Poor audio quality, but you can see the Doc Brown part there.

The DeLorean AND the Time Train are closer to Monster's Cafe than ROTM. If you are coming in the park, head straight, then turn right when you pass Monster's Cafe (Twister should be on your left). The DeLorean will be at the end of the walkway. Doc Brown makes appearances here.

I saw the DVDs at Target today, but not the blu-rays. I had to go to two different Best Buys to find the blu-rays the day they came out.

I did check the DVD set - it does have the ride footage.

The re-release last month was so fun! We all got free 25th Anniversary posters, and they had a trivia game before the movie started. The crowd was crazy too...they cheered every name in the credits and at some of the more popular lines/scenes (the part where Doc said, "Next Saturday night, we're sending you BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!!" got the biggest cheers, it was so funny).

When it was over, some guy yelled "PART II!!!!" That would be so cool if they brought back all 3 movies.

I have a hoveboard t-shirt from the NBC store in NY. It actually says on the back "Flying Into Stores Spring 2015!" :rotfl:

They did say on the behind-the-scenes that they purposely made the future silly because they knew they weren't going to get it right anyway. They just didn't want to make sure it wasn't Blade Runner-style depressing.

Went to another Target, they had the blue rays, but not the regular DVD. Seems like a popular item!

Thanks for the link. I guess you can find anything on you tube!

I have some BTTF memorabilia too: a hovercraft key chain, a pin that says something like "I saw the Future Back 2 Back" and the 3 movie posters. Ebay someday!

I'm wondering if Neflix will have the disc with the extras. How many discs are in the set? It seemed like a really high number for 3 movies. Are the extras on multiple discs?

I have my poster in a safe place. There was a guy wearing the Marty vest, and EVERYONE applauded when George punched out Biff. :cool2:

I was so happy to at least see the Delorean, but I miss the ride!
Simpsons was fun, I love the show, but I loved the back to the future ride more.

It's a 6-disc set, but 3 of the discs are just digital copies of the movies. The extras are on the main 3 discs along with the movies (the ride footage is on the extras for Part III).

And the extras are really good - they have everything from the previous releases, and there's a brand-new documentary called "Tales from the Future" which is really terrific. It's in 6 parts across the 3 main discs. They interview just about everybody and there's lots of cool behind-the-scenes stuff.

In the last part of the documentary, they do mention the ride - they said they knew they made it when the movies got turned into a ride, and Christopher Lloyd said he loved the ride and that he once went on it 4 times in a row an nearly made himself sick on it. :scared1:
