Aaahhhhh....Disney magic is alive and well, and my family and I were willing recipients every step of the way over the weekend!

Just got back last night from our surprise birthday trip for our now-4 yo DD. We told the girls in the airport parking lot in St. Louis...they were looking around wondering where they were. We told the almost birthday girl that instead of having her birthday dinner at Applebees, we were going to have it at Chef Mickey's Buffet. The facial expression on the 7 yo DD was priceless, the sensible b-day girl said "but we would have to go to disney wowld" with the most serious little face. We pointed at the suitcases and the shrieking that ensued was heard around the greater metropolitan St. Louis area without a doubt!

Got to VWL around 10 p.m. Awesome studio (VERY clean and cheerful)...LOVE that place!

Friday it was off to the magic kingdom to start DD's magical 4th birthday. Got a big button, talked to Goofy on the phone at Town Hall ("he's singing to me mommy!!"), on to Dumbo and the other favorite rides, got a very special autograph and attention from DD's all time favorite character-Minnie Mouse, got to be Lumiere in Belle's storytime show, and then...a Disney angel--who had taken us under their wing--arranged VIP seating for us at the afternoon parade. The girls were front and center for touches from all the characters that went by...and Ariel and Cinderella mouthed "happy birthday" from their snowglobes at our little girl!!!!!!! Priceless!

We headed to Chef Mickey's for dinner where she got a placemat autographed by the characters and a birthday cupcake followed by a stop from Goofy and Mickey as they went "dancing by". Then back to the hotel to open presents. Walked in to the room, found a chocolate cake with a note from Mickey AND an autographed photo and birthday card from Minnie for 4 yo and an autographed photo and welcome card for 7 yo along with chocolate Mickey head treats atop pretzels for both of them (compliments of the same magical Disney angel that sprinkled pixie dust for our VIP parade seats)!!!!!!!!!!!! Then after playing with our new presents, we popped some popcorn and headed down to the beach to watch the EWP.

It was an INCREDIBLE day filled with the kind of magic that we will all remember for years to come!!!!!!!!!!

And if that wasn't magical enough....at MGM on Sunday our little girl thanked MInnie for the cake and card and gave HER a picture she had made for Minnie. Several hours later, from her car at the end of the parade, Minnie looked right at her, waved, blew a kiss and tapped her head to tell her she remembered her!!!!!! My husband and I were blown away! And then a cast member, who had taken to our girls while waiting for the parade to start, spotted us entering Fantasmic that night. Walks over to the girls and asks them if they would like to sit in the front row. And voila...front row seats!!!!!!

Monday (our departure day) we walked in to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner. A man came over to our 7 yo DD and asked if she and her family would like to ring the bell to start the dinner hour. She said "sure". So the four of us got to walk upstairs onto the little balcony area and the girls rang the bell alongside MInnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale!!!!!!!!! And if the picture the waitress took comes out--we've got a priceless family Christmas card picture this year with "our Disney family"!!!!!!!!!!

The trip was outstanding from start to finish. CAN'T WAIT to go back for our annual trip on January 11th!!!!!!!!! Transportation to/from VWL was flawless every day except Sunday (triathalon complications)...and you know what? Who cares...I'd rather spend 15 minutes waiting for a bus at Disney then doing chores in St. Louis!

For all of you who are VWL owners and haven't been yet--it is a beautiful resort!!!!!!!!!!! We love it there, love Disney, love the magic!

January 11th here we come!!!!!!!!!! And remember, the magic of Disney starts in your own heart first!

I've gotten to the point where I love hearing the stories about trips to Disney almost as much as I love going, and your trip sounds absolutely fabulous. I'm glad you had a great time, and can't wait to get my chance to stay at VWL, next year.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful birthday trip report with us! What great pixie dust you encountered!!

We celebrated DD's 6th Birthday on the cruise and at the World in May. We didn't get to do all the great stuff you did,(parades, ..) but we ate at the castle for breakfast and chef Mickey's for dinner. It was so much fun for her. Of course 7 will probably be a big downer with the plain old backyard party!:teeth: You brought back some wonderful memories for me and are making me sooooo homesick. We are expecting our 3rd child in March, so I'm not sure when we will get to go back. Glad you pulled off the big surprise, I remember reading about it and being so excited for you. Thanks for the report. Erin

Your wonderful report really brought a smile to my face! I would have loved to see your kids' reaction when they realized where they were going. What a priceless moment! Glad the trip was so magical. Thanks for sharing! :D

That sounds like the most magical trip!! I got a little misty just reading it!! Your daughters will both remember this trip forever!

Birthdays are special at WDW but it sounds like your DDs was extra, extra special! Thanks for sharing your trip with us. We are looking forward to our 1st trip home to WLV so your post just psyched me up that much more!

Sounds like a wonderful trip! But, what are you going to do for the 8th birthday when it rolls around? ; ;

PamOKW,

Actually it was DD's 4th birthday, but there is NO WAY we can top it next year when she turns 5. But this was so special and so magical that I think she'll be okay with that! ;-)

Maybe we can go for MY birthday one year! :smooth:

Laura

Laura,

Will your 7 yo DD expect this for her birthday? You may be making a trip down in January and again for her birthday. See what WDW and DVC does to us. From across the State I enjoyed your report and I'm glad you had a great time. I hope our trip in three weeks is half as good.

Kirt.

The facial expression on the 7 yo DD

Laura, I meant what will you do for the "other daughter" when her 8th birthday comes up this year? A cake and candles won't cut it for her if little sis got a trip to Disney. ;) I think Kirt is thinking along the same lines.

The magic thing is....we can give our families these amazing experiences!

Pam,

Sorry, I'm a bit slow sometimes

My oldest daughter has the pleasure of having a week off for her birthday every single year (falls just 3 days after Christmas) but unfortunately I'm not a big fan of spending that particular holiday away from our home (and we don't even celebrate it with any extended family--just the 4 of us). Creature of habit that way I guess.

However, our first trip to Disney as a family (Jan 2000) was to celebrate her then 5th birthday and our then 10 year wedding anniversary which happen to fall on the same day. We had planned from the day she was born that we would spend our 10 year anniversary and her 5th birthday in Disney (until I called 3 years in advance to inquire and was told that late Christmas week of 1999 was already booked solid throughout the entire Disney complex)...so we pushed the celebration into January. So, although she missed the button and the cake...she was the reason we got hooked in the first place!!!

Who knows...maybe this past weekend will be brought up in therapy in about 20 years  :p

The idea of a chicago concierge did go through my head this evening for her special day so she could check out the American Girl place up there...but dh kinda balked at the idea of chicago in late December. But it is fun to dream isn't it? And DVC makes it all possible.

BTW Pam, where in Connecticut are you from? I spent the second half of my "growing up years" in Brookfield and went to high school in Danbury.

Hi....As long as you believe in magic...You will always have a better than expected time....Please don't worry about "topping", Think of surpassing.....It truly is the most Magical place on earth.
Carry the memories always, and escape to the memories when times get tough, but remember, We are always here...
