Back from Poly Concierge and HIFS

We just returned from our first trip to WDW. We stayed off-site first at HIFS (I'll post about it on the Orlando board) and then 5 nights on-site at the Polynesian LV Concierge.

We LOVED the view from our room, the pool was great, and being on the monorail for that portion of our trip was terrific. Other than that the Polynesian didn't impress us much at all. I've always wanted to stay there so it was somewhat of a disappointment.

The food offerings were wonderful, and we ate there 4 of 5 nights for dinner. (we just weren't that hungry after long hot days at the parks). Nevertheless, other than the food, there wasn't one thing that made staying in the concierge building different from staying in another lagoon view building. Perhaps that is because we didn't need their services once we arrived? The staff was friendly, but no friendlier than the rest of the resort staff.

Additionally, we had a few problems on our first day, nothing major, just time consuming. We were reimbursed our first night stay, but I doubt we'll ever return.

Overall, we had a wonderful trip, and are returning to WDW in June for our 2nd trip!

Welcome home. Sorry you did not enjoy it. I am a little confused. The staff was friendly, the food was wonderful and you loved the view from the room, you had a problem and they gave you a free night but you doubt you will ever return. I guess I must be missing something.

Good thing there are other resorts to go to I guess.

Sorry, I suppose I should have elaborated a little.

The room itself did not impress us, it had a slight odor (I know, I know....this topic has been debated before). The first room they put us in had a horrible odor. My DH, who never notices things like that, commented the moment we walked in as did my older DD. We also felt the room was slightly run-down (our room at the $109 HIFS was in better shape). Perhaps this is why they will be closing it for renovations?

Overall, it just wasn't our style. Luckily there are many more to chose from on our next trip! Thanks for all the info on your site though, it was very helpful in planning our first trip.

Most of the longhouse rooms are still in good shape but some are in need of rehab. That is why they are doing as much construction as they are on the older longhouses. I would love to see what the new rooms look like. If there was any odor from moisture that should be resolved with the new construction and new ventilation system. I can understand not liking the theme of the resort. We love it but not everyone does. I guess there was tow things I was hoping to achieve with my web pages. One would be to show people what the place is like if they like the Polynesian feel and the second thing would be to discourage those who may not like it. At least you know now. That is why there are so many resorts at WDW.

We're planning on staying ther also in DEC. after 10 days at HIFS and 4 at the Dolphin. What room number had the bad smell? What floor were you on? What room did you finally have?Thanks

1514 had the really horrible odor.

They showed us 2508 which was great (I didn't detect any smell at all), but it ended up being blocked for a couple coming in the next day, so we couldn't have that one.

So we ended up in 2512, which has a great view of the castle, but a slight odor still.
