We just got back home this evening. We logged 5,432.9 miles and had a stellar, almost problem free trip. I really want to work on a full blown trip report, but really need time to organize my thoughts. In short, we couldn't have asked for a better trip.

The drive out went about as good as we could expect. We saw a little weather from the tropical storm hitting the gulf coast our second morning, then had clear, beautiful weather until we got back to Tennessee and North Carolina. We did lose the A/C in our rental car on the way back. We ran most of the way between OK City and Fort Smith, AR without A/C in 95+ degree weather. The good news is the vehicle swap out took less than an hour and we were back on the road.

We did our Disney homework on the way out, along with some other fun RT66 stuff.

This is us in front of the Cozy Cone and one of the motels that inspired it.

This also happened when we got back to Vegas. That's my daughter and her now fiance, who went on the trip with us. They waited until after Disney so his family could be there.

Needless to say, there's much more to share.

In general we just had a great time. Our stay at the BWPII was wonderful. The renovated rooms are much nicer than I expected. The breakfast was good, not 5 star cuisine, but easily good enough to get us started each day.

Disneyland was every bit as magical as we hoped. We rode every ride we wanted and did most of the favorites twice. Highlights included the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour, lunch at the Blue Bayou and the fireworks (multiple times). We also loved California Adventure. Again, we did most of the headliners more than once. Guardians was a blast (I impressed myself and my family by riding it. I had never done TOT). Cars Land is take your breath away great. And just thinking about World of Color (we did the dessert party one night and saw it on the late show another) still gives me chills.

I can't thank those who helped us plan enough. HydroGuy, you're the man. June planning folks, you were the best. I even ran into one of our group (3TinksAndAnEeyore) at the Cove bar. Things couldn't have gone much better, in fact we're already talking about another trip some time in the future (after we plan a wedding, I guess).

First, I absolutely loved your photos on Route 66! So glad you had such a great trip with the Vegas to top it off.

Second, I got a shout out and I will take it! We are off to DLR on Monday.

:wizard:

Did you stay in the Wigwam? I am from Northern Arizona and we always joke about staying there.

We did not, but we talked about looking into it on the rest of our trip. I thought it was cool how they had an old car set by each one. I have no idea what they look like inside, though. Running out west and riding my bike back on RT66 is a bucket list item. If I do that, I may see about staying there then.

So glad you had a magical trip! And a proposal... now that's really magical!! Congratulations to your daughter and her fiancé! :) Here's another vote for a DLR wedding or at least a post-wedding DLR family celebration. How did the dogs do on the trip and in Anaheim?
Glad everyone got back home safely.

Thanks and thanks. The dogs did great on the trip. They usually travel well and this was no different. As far as we can tell, the boarding in Vegas went well. The dogs looked good when we picked them up. The only thing we noticed was our little girl dog was very clingy for the first few days after we picked them up (which we were glad to accommodate). On the trip home and now at home, they are both doing well.

First off, congrats to your daughter! And I'm glad your trip went so well!

I LOVE the pictures and the idea of seeing the originals. You've made me want to do a road trip along RT 66 to show my kids all this!

Thank you! I will make a RT66 trip at some point. There's lots of Cars related stuff, but so much more. It really is the quintessential road trip route with great scenery, amusing road side oddities and wonderful history.
