:cold: BRRRR! How on earth are you folks in Florida handling that cold? We went down expecting some "moderately" cold weather, like 50s or so, but certainly not expecting gale force winds in the 30s. :lmao:

Some highlights:

Flight went well. I took 3 Xanax and had a strong rum and coke and was feeling no fear on the way there. :thumbsup2

First couple of days had decent weather and the parks weren't very crowded. DD brought a friend, so hubby and I thought we'd get some alone time, but alas the kids decided to hang out with us most of the time. Got to the parks at rope drop and rides were a walk on.

Monday was miserable cold. We had on layers upon layers of clothes, but the wind just blew right through us. We'd gone to Epcot, but we just couldn't finish out the day, so we left early. There was an accident involving a bus, but we never did find out what happened.

Did Akershus for the princess dinner and it was probably the worst meal we had. The place was crazy. We hated the check in procedure. We've been there before and used to love it, but it's just not the same.

Sanaa and Boma were to die for. Raglan Road was a good choice too.

Flight back wasn't nearly so pleasant as the flight down. My daughter had gotten pulled aside for a pat down because she had on a bulky sweatshirt. It wasn't bad, just a hassle because she wasn't feeling well. There was some kind of medical emergency just as we were ready for takeoff, (poor younger man passed out and had to be worked on... was there with a baby and significant other). Plane was delayed a while. DD was being surly and there were majorly fussing tots on the plane. The 3 Xanax and booze didn't really start to help until we were landing.

Overall it was a wonderful trip and I was sooooo happy being there. But I don't think I'll ever take a December trip again. I love the heat and enjoy spending my afternoons swimming, so I think we'll go back to taking our trips in June. I hope that doesn't sound negative, because it's not -- just a preference. I needed this trip and wish we could have stayed another week!

Happy to hear your trip was mostly ok. I usually love winter in Florida but there is always a chance for a nasty cold spell, too bad it came so early. How were the decorations? Did you have a favorite gingerbread house?

Glad you had some good weather for at least part of your trip. Yes, it's been very cold here and we're hoping to warm up a bit by this weekend. We don't like when it gets this cold and for such a long spell. Typically, it's just for a few days and back up to warm weather, but last winter was very cold for prolonged periods and it's beginning to look like we're going to repeat that again this year.

Sorry it was so cold for you! I actually love the cold weather and hate the heat (yes I know I live in the wrong state!) so I've been enjoying this cold weather! But I understand it must suck for people trying to enjoy the parks - my family are arriving from England next week and they're praying for warmer weather after the weeks of snow they've had over there!

I will say I'm looking forward to it warming up just a little - I'd like to be able to uncover my plants and citrus trees and not have to wear four layers of clothing to go out to pick up groceries!

My poor brother moved down their to get away from the cold winters here and has been hit with back to back cold winters there. :cold:

How are we handling....some better than others..I do enjoy snuggling down in my heavy blanket at night!

This made me laugh. I'm a Xanax popper, as well as a drink drinker on the way down, as well. It cracks me up the rule about no one under age 15 being in the emergency row. I could sit there, and would be completely useless. My (then) 14/13/even 12!!! year olds would be more helpful. I'd be "Oh it's fiiiiine.... we're gonna crash? Pfffft.... it'll be fiiiiiine"

For some reason I'm not AS nervous on any flight, on the way home. I think it's the pure exhaustion from the trip. ;)

I am not handling it well at all!! I will hate to see our electric bill :rotfl: Looking to moving to the west where it will be hot and dry. hehe.

We were there last Christmas and most days were cold and we wore layers and heavy fall coats. I won't go again in the winter b/c it just made the trip too gloomy. We only swam for 15 minutes one day. I wish we had waited and gone in the spring.

I love it for the holidays, then I am done with it. Every morning when I walk my dog, I think about how cold would it be riding Thunder Mountain, or Splash Mountain. Too cold for my thin blood. OH and for those of us with hot flashes, it is great. I get hot, I just walk outside with no coat. Hot flash gone. lol

I am glad that you were all able to still have a nice time. This year when we went was totally different from when we stayed last year. It was also cold too!:rotfl:

Glad you enjoyed yourself - for the most part..:thumbsup2

I saw on the news today that it was 46 degrees in Orlando..Brrrrrrrr....

You aren't alone. People are all over the Theme Parks board saying how cold it was. We've gone 3-4 times in January. Sometimes it was COLD, sometimes 60's. We have to follow the school calendar, so it's June for us for the next 13 yrs!

DD and I are both sick. We aren't handling the weather well at all. It's not the cold that's the problem, it's the drastc swings in temperatures. Last night, we set a record low. On Friday, it is supposed to be 78 degrees. Crazy weather!

That happened to us one year. It was the 70s for about 2 days and then the temps dropped to 31--there were actually snow flurries! In Orlando! We ended up buying some hats and gloves at WDW(black Mickey heads), which turned into some fun souveniers, in the end.

I'm a diehard New Englander, but I swear, 40's in Orlando feels MUCH colder than 40's in Massachusetts! I was there the week after Thanksgiving, when this cold stretch started, so I know how chilly that wind is down there. Up here, if it's anything over 40 degrees, I'm thinking it's 'nice' weather!

I think it was in1983...I went to visit my sister in Orlando ans we went to Epcot for the first time. I think it was under 30 degrees and all I brought was a light leather jacket. BRRRR.

You're right, 40s did feel colder down there than up here in PA! I'm used to some cold winters. It's in the teens here now, and when we landed in Pittsburgh, but it wasn't windy like it was in FL. Plus we don't attempt to spend all day in a theme park when it's in the 40s.

I will say that park touring, especially at Animal Kingdom, was soooo much easier in cooler weather, like 50s/60s. It was just the couple of days that went below that which were so difficult.

Oh, and I forgot about the gingerbread houses! :guilty: I wish I would have remembered to go see them. The decorations are so beautiful and it really did get me into the Christmas spirit. I think my favorite tree had to be the one at Animal Kingdom.

I'm keeping an eye on the forecast for marathon weekend. I'm hoping for temps in the low or mid 40's for that weekend so the reports look promising but I could deal without the wind. After doing my last month of training in the teens temps in the 60's would be a disaster for my time.
