My sixteen-year-old (17 in July) DD wants to babysit in order to save some money for our Disney trip in Sept.

What is the going rate per hour and/or per child?

We live in NorthWest Florida. It's not a big city but it isn't extremely rural.

Thanks.

Since she is 17 years old, I feel she should command a fairly good hourly rate. My daughter who is 15 gets anywhere from $6.75 to $10.00 per hour. Sometimes she comes home with $100.00!!!!We live in the Chicago area so maybe the rates are a little higher!
best of luck! Tax free, it should really add up!

New Jersey, outside of Philly, usually $5/hour.

May vary by age of child. Ours is 8 and is pretty self-sufficient so not a whole lot a babysitter needs to do other than be present.

WOW! we live in central il. in a small town and it is usually $1-$2 and hour! That is even for babysitting done weekdays as daycare by adults! And really I think the $2.00 is pretty rare! More like $1.25-$1.50!

My sister in law who is only 14 gets $10/hr!!!! Edited to say "she lives in St.Petersburg, FL.

Here where I live I pay $7/$8/hr. Our minimum wage is $7.20 I believe.

yeah, we pay $7-10/hour - 1 child -

Forget min wage - I should go into the babysitting business - cash, no taxes!

Northern NJ is about $10 for someone 17 or older and here in DC it's around $10-$15 an hour for someone in college or older.

West Michigan - My DD18 College Student gets anywhere from 8 to 10 dollars per hour 2 young kids under 5.

Around here the regular daily babysitters get less than the ones that go on a spur of the moment.

I could never pay $10 an hour for a babysitter and I have 3 kids including a baby. I pay a 15 year old $25 for an evening which would be about 4.5 hours.
I pay an accredited daycare center $40 a day for the baby and they are open from 7:00am to 6pm.
Shheees- some people are just rich I guess.

Holy Toledo!!! $10 an hour! Wow! I am glad I live in MN I guess. We just started with a new babysitter a few months ago. My kids adore this girl! When we got back from vacation a month ago, the first thing they asked when they woke up the next morning, was when she would be coming. When I first talked to her about sitting for us, I asked how much she charged and she wouldn't say. So, I told her I usually pay $6-$7 an hour for my three kids. She said, "Oh, that is way too much. You can't pay me that much." So, I pay her $5 an hour. She takes the kids outside, plays with them constantly, some days makes dinner or lunch and cleans my kitchen! This girl is a gem and I probably would pay her $10 an hour, but boy am I glad I don't have to! (She is 16 and homeschooled so she babysits for me a lot during the day, by the way.)

i work at a day care center, and often babysit the kids in my class.....i get between 10-14 dollars an hour usually....

Blueeyes- I could see that being that you work at a daycare center and you are a professional-

I pay $10/hour for two kids ages 5 and 2. That is for weekend evenings. I pay the preschool they go to to much to think about!

Mt sitter charges $2/hr per child (I have 2 boys) HOWEVER I pay her $6/hr because I know my 2 boys (7 & 8) wear her out. (Sometimes I give her even more depending on her condition when I get home :) ). I curse Calvin for treating Roslyn so badly- and giving my boys ideas!!!!!

Well, I pay high school girls $6.00 per hour. I pay my neighbor $10-$12 per hour for after school care. I feel I pay pretty well considering my DD is an only child and is 7 years old.

Our Kindercare for schoolagers summer program is running $189 per week. I am making alternative summer camp plans because that is WAY TOO MUCH for a daycare center at a ratio of 20 or 25 kids to 1 adult!

Just outside DC,
Mothers Helpers (10 - 12 year olds) $3/hour
12 - 14 year olds $5/hour
15 - 16 year olds $7/hour
17+ $10/hour

This is for 2, very mello, well behaved kids. We also usually order pizza for them, so a night out to dinner and the movies costs us $50 - $70 before we buy our dinner or movie tickets. So pretty much, we rent movies at home!

Hi, MommySeven!

I also live in NW Florida--Pensacola for 15 years and now Navarre. I usually pay $5.00/ hour for my two boys, ages 7 and 9. I figure that the daycare folks get paid minimum wage or not much more, so $5.00 per hour is fair for a teenager, considering it's cash-money!

BTW, if you are near me, PM me coz I need a sitter! :teeth:

In Ohio the going rate is our neighborhood is $3.00 an hour for an evening teenage sitter!!! I thought that was high. The lady that watches my daughter after school and in the summer charges $2.00 an hour and she provides a good lunch and snacks!!!

I pay $3.00 for one child per hour and $5.00 for two kids per hour. I had no idea how much to pay so I asked around at our church and that seemed to be the going rate around here. I'm sure some people pay more and some people pay less, but that's what we go with.

I don't think my husband and I could afford to go out very often if we had to pay much more than that.
