Baby Jogger or Disney World Park Stroller for tall child?

Hi there,

I'm debating on whether to rent a double babyjogger from one of the rental companies OR rent a stroller from Disney World at the parks each day. My concern is the height of my daughter. I have two daughters, 4.5 and 6. My 6 year old is 46" and the rental stroller companies say that their strollers are only good for children up to 42". Does anyone know the height restriction of the Disney World park strollers? I know renting from the parks each day would cost way more money but if she'll fit in them better then I guess that is the way we'll have to go. Anyone out there have any experiences with these to strollers with tall children? Thanks so much!

p.s. I thought I'd also add that we bought two The First Years Jet Strollers because both our daughters fit comfortably in them but once we took them around the block in them we realized we had to return them. The handles weren't tall enough and or far away enough that we kept kicking the back wheels of the stroller when we walked.

I can't tell you about the Disney strollers, but we had DD in a BabyJogger City Mini the other day, the type all the rental places are renting, and she *just* fits under the canopy and she is just a tad over 38" right now. So I doubt your DD would be very comfortable in one. JMHO

Thanks very much! That's what I was worried about. I wish I could find out about the Disney Strollers but I can't seem to find anything.

There are pictures of the WDW rental strollers down the pages both at allears and wdwinfo (the dis).

We brought our Volo for DS, for our first trip in December when DS was 6.5. It was a "just in case" thing, and we knew it wouldn't be comfy for him b/c he had long grown too tall to comfortably relax his head and top of his back in it. But yay, he didn't need it! It stayed in the room the whole time. I hope you're as happily surprised in that way as we were.

I think Orlando Stroller Rentals also has the City Elite which I know can take a heavier wt--not sure about height. If you contact them directly--like on Facebook, they are very helpful. I think they also have the sit and stand which isn't the same as real stroller but at least something.
The park strollers are very hard and probably not too comfortable. Although she would probably have the headroom, the legroom likely isn't there--but she could probably sit w/legs criss-crossed.
I'm still debating this also. My son is 6 and I fear he will get very cranky if he can't sit down...haven't tried his umbrella stroller that he used to use yet. If he doesn't fit in there I'm thinking of going without and hoping for the best but that could backfire, we also have a 9month old to juggle...
The other disadvantage of using a park stroller is that you won't have it outside of the park--my son always seemed to fall asleep on the monorail.

I was going to suggest the First Years Ignite-but then read you didn't like the Jet. I can say the Ignite is a bit bigger and might fit you more comfortably, if only for your younger DD.
My DS is 42" and 42lbs. He fits perfectly in the Ignite.

You might also try and find a Aprica Presto stroller (on sale at a lot of places for $120). This stroller says it holds up to 70lbs and is still pretty lightweight and folds umbrella style. It is very high off the ground-made for bigger kids. My DS picked the Ignite over this stroller though-he claimed the ignite was more comfy.

my son is VERY tall too (he's 4 and he's 48 inches). We did the disney stroller with NO problem this past December (dec. 10). The jogging strollers just dont have enough room for him and he's very cramped. We LOVED LOVED LOVED having the disney stroller as he could easily get in and out and have plenty of room. were going again this december, and i'll be getting on again! hope this helps

That certaintly does help! Thanks so much! I hate how much they are but if everyone is comfortable then I guess it's worth it! Did you have a single? I was thinking maybe I'd bring one stroller for my youngest and then rent a single for my oldest. Although having them in one stroller sure would be nice. Oh the decisions!

Let me just say how great it is to come across this forum to satisfy my WDW geeky side and that everyone is helpful and not judgmental. WDW is like a marathon for adults, let alone the little legs of toddlers and post toddlers. My little one is 44in and 35lbs at just over 5yrs and I know that although she will walk most of the time, she will inevitably want to be carried(not likely)when we are all the way across the park trying to get to buses and then be asleep for the journey back. Not happening my friend. So, to adress your stroller questions:
Aprica Presto: the back is not tall enough for an older child. They got the compact fold with strap and higher seat right, just didn't follow up with a longer back to the seat.

Mamas & Papas "Trip": This one doesn't recline but the back goes all the way up, compact fold and easy carry(for on and off busses) and can be bought new for around $109 if you hunt down deals. could use a little more distance between seat and foot strap but it will work.

Combi Cosmo: Perfect stroller for disney...for kids under 42in:-(

Baby Jogger City Mini and now the City Micro: We are eyeing this one up because my daughter fits great in it and it's easy to push and fold. It's one of the few with a taller back. Can't find a used one though and it's pricey for only one more use. It does have a clip on foot stand on wheels for the back for an older child to hitch a ride, but not a seat.

I had the city mini until last aug and now I have the city elite. My dd is about 46inches tall and she fits comfy in both. We stopped using the mini b/c she is 65 pounds of dead weight and the weight is not distributed evenly it wasn't as easy to push. The elite is my go to stroller now as for seat backs they are some of the tallest two other options would be the i'coo pluto and the aprica cadence they are great for tall people more than what it would cost to rent a double for both but you can resell. the elite has an adjustable handle on it and at its highest position to the the ground is 46 inches and the seat back is between 20 and 21 inches the seat width is 14 inches and b/c the canopy is so large the way that it folds makes it look much smaller than it actually is. As w/ pretty much all joggers you loose foot room but I think the one that will be the best choice in that is the bob and the seat measurement are roughly the same. I don't have my mini so I can't give you exacts on it, but I was able to use it for my older dd when she was that size w/ no problems.

this is my dd she was 7 and 48 inches at the time. the canopy is flipped back so you can see exactly how high the seat actually is.

this is my younger dd in the classic I don't have it anymore either so I can't give you exacts on the seat but it is essentially the same as the elite just a square canopy. This was from our trip this past dec.

We ended up buying a new stroller this year because of a similar problem. My sons aren't as tall as yours however they have very long torsos and at 3.5 and 2 they are to tall when they sit down for umbrella strollers as well as our other stroller.

We ended up getting a Zooper Twist which has a 19" back (55lb) and great sunshade which both the boys love and are very comfy in it. Costco has them at a good price (and great return policy) and it even includes a sunshade and raincover. It is a bit heavier then some umbrella strollers at 17 pounds but it is very sturdy (I can hang stuff on the back without it tipping which is great) and I both hubby and I love that the handles are high enough.

Have you considered renting the city mini? We did this last trip and it worked out great since we didn't want to mess with it in the airport that trip and didn't need it out of the parks. Actually had a problem w/the first stroller but they resolved it very quickly(osr). FWIW, I did find my 49lb son a little harder to push that I thought but certainly not horrible. I was pregnant at the time and we did end up buying a city mini for the baby, I'm very happy w/it but I won't let my older son in it, I'm afraid he'll mess up the suspension since he's now over the wt limit. That being said, we are going in August and plan to not use a stroller for the 6yo too often but we are bringing the Inglesina Swift umbrella stroller we have had for several years. We have tested him in it on neighborhood walks and it pushes great even though the wt limit is probably under 50#, he might be a little smushed in there but he is 6, it's that or walk, lol. It is fairly tall for an umbrella. That stroller is a workhorse! I love it, I think it could navigate itself around WDW at this point.
I got a tip from this board a long time ago--to put a 1# wrist wt over each wheel of the umbrella stroller. It definitely decreases the tipping.
My friend thinks park strollers are the greatest thing for older kids--they are easy in and out and really just a place to sit for kids who are getting tired. I love the convenience factor esp if a stroller is not essential outside of the parks, but the price is just too ridiculous these days.
Now that we have 2 kids, I thought about just bringing one stroller and wearing the baby if the 6yo needs to ride but I really want the baby in the city mini because of the sun shade and as I said, I don't want the bigger one in it so we will bring both. Luckily, we are driving so have a little more flexibility in what we can schlepp with us!

We just got a Maclaren Starck which are on sale for $60- 85% off at albee baby. Shipping is 4.95, but if you bought two it would be free. My son is four and he is 44" and about 45 lbs. I put him in a Volo and it was ridiculous, he hated it, not only was the back below his head but it didn't even provide him any support while just sitting up on his upper back. The Starck has a seat back height of 22.5 inches, which is 4.5 inches taller than a volo. The top of my son's head is about even with the top of the Starck seat- he loves it.

Also, it comes with a travel bag and a rain cover- for $60? Can't beat that! The handles are also really tall, you won't be kicking this stroller.
