I've used both. I REALLY don't like the beco - the fabric between mom/babe makes breastfeeding next to impossible while using the carrier - that's a big deal for me. I am very slim - so like a carrier that can adjust to very small without needing to lean forward. I prefer the ONya baby for that reason. I also find the hood much easier to snap into place myself and it has better coverage for baby. Big things for me while at WDW.

The beco butterfly has fabric between but the Gemini doesn't. They have a new carrier as well (soleli maybe?) that I'm not sure if it has the fabric.

People who love wraps really love them. I really, really tried but could not be happy using one. Too much fabric. Too much effort to get it wrapped. I had even purchased a really beautiful fabric from gypsy mama after doing bunches of research. Sigh. If you can find a baby wearing group locally to try a few things out, that might help you decide if you are a wrap person or not.

On the soft structured carriers, I never used one for a forward facing carry. But I used them all the time for a front carry with baby facing me. Two different things. The forward facing carry is reportedly pretty hard on the adult's back and some people have concerns about whether that position is good for the baby's hips, etc. I have not seen those same concerns for a front carry with baby facing in and the baby would be in the same position as in a back carry.

I also did use my ergo for back carries a few times. I was even able to get dd on my back by myself, which is a bit of a trick with the soft structured carriers. My dd loved the carrier until she started walking at ten months and then she hated the carrier. So I quit baby wearing with any regularity about the time she got heavy enough that I couldn't do a front carry comfortably any more. There are buckle carriers like the ergo, becos, pikkolo, etc. There are also Mei tais, which are very similar but tie instead of buckling, which makes them very adjustable and also makes them fold down very small in a diaper bag.

When you say backpack type carriers, that makes me think of the back only carriers with a frame, like Kelty makes. I never had one of those. I have heard they are great for hiking and such. They are big so not great for outings in tight quarters, like disney lines, I would think.

The baby wearers forum has such a wealth of information about all the different options and they were very helpful to me.

I concur..thr Gemini has no fabric between mom.and child, and all of the accessories I have used with it, or made for it, are very easy to get on and off.

We had the beco butterfly. I wish I had known about Tula though because those seem awesome. We happily used our beco last year in mackinaw city with our three year old. We had taken our Mini Cooper which had no stroller room after packing, so I threw in the beco. Glad I did because our thermostat broke causing the car to seem like it was overheating. We pretty much walked every where. It's definitely worth it getting a good carrier.
