Baby carrier options

OK. I've read that wagons are not allowed due to the "pull behind" factor, totally understandable.

What about the baby carrier that is worn on the back? Not the soft kind, but a baby backpack, like the Kelty pack ( http://www.albeebaby.com/kejobafrca.html )? Are those OK?

We will have a stroller as well, but are keeping options open.

Thanks!

The backpacks are fine, have you looked into something like an ergo that you can wear on your front as well? I carried my dd when she was 1 all around the park in a carrier (I had a mei tai) on my front and took her on rides that way, and then I flipped her to my back to take naps. I love that you can take them on rides in the carrier!

They have a Baby Bjorn for the little one. I think the backpack came up when they realized the 4yo still fits by weight. I think we'll bring an extra stroller instead, 4yo is a stocky young man!

We just got back from our trip....it was so much fun. If I could help you by telling you what worked for us...

We took our sit and stand stroller vs our umbrella or double stroller. It was wonderful as my two oldest could ride as well at the end of the night when they were exhausted. My sons are 3 and 5 and they were able to hop on and off according to our needs. i.e. Opening of the park DCA everyone runs to Toy Story and if they were on the loose they may get trappled lol My daughter is 14 months she rode strapped in front and it was easy to take her in and out when we were about to stroller park and get on rides. When it was her nap time I wore a wrap...

Glad you had a great time and I kept counting heads on that last picture. Snug and tucked away is the baby, lol.

mrsmeyer, that's a great wrap. Did you make it, or if not, what is the name of it?

I am sure the backpack type carriers are ok to wear in the parks, however, keep in mind that if the "childwearer" wants to ride, they will have to take the child out, take it off and stow it somewhere, or have someone else wear it while they ride. I am pretty sure they won't allow those on rides, however, the soft Ergo/Beco/Bjorn type carriers are allowed on some rides, and are easier to stuff into a stroller basket when not in use.

Thanks. A sit n stand would be great, I keep looking at them, but....I think we've decided to bring the Bjorn and two strollers. The extra stroller will be good for hauling packs and sweaters, but is also a higher weight limit so if the 4 or just-turned-6 year old need a ride, they can settle in for a bit.

Excellent point. They first thought of the backpack carrier in case the 4yo got overstimulated or overtired, but who wants to carry the empty pack until that time?
I think we got it covered with an extra high weight limit stroller that I have. If it's not being used for purpose, it can be a carryall.

So we'll have 1 infant with a Bjorn and a stroller, one 4 yo and a newly 5yo with the option of the second stroller, and 3 adults who can carry/push any of the above.

I'm getting excited!

Very cool! I'm impressed! Saving those to my favorites should we have another baby. I did a bit of DIY from mamatoto with DS, but we were broke and it was summer, so it was more along the lines of "breezy but strong fabric wrapped around me" rather than anything nice like that!
