Can anyone tell me what would be a good infant carrier/sling that a very well endowed larger sized woman can wear comfortably?(I am a 40DDD).I had a baby bjorn with DD and it sat really wrong, maybe I just wasnt adjusting it right :confused3 Any help will be appreciated!

We got a Kelty backpack carrier that was great it converted into a stroller too.

They make slings that might work better than a carrier.

When I was pregnant, I was using a sling for my DS and it worked well, right up to the end of my pregnancy. A backpack carrier might also work, but could be bulky when not in use.

They make longer straps for the Baby Bjorn, too. I had those and they worked for me and DH. I think I got mine from babyage.com. I also have a Maya Wrap sling and it ROCKS!! They come in different sizes and colors. I love the sling for my DS who is almost one now. I wish I had gotten the sling sooner. I'll be taking it to Disney in May for sure!

Did you have the Baby Bjorn with the longer straps...I had given up on the idea of using a baby carrier ever...then I found this one. It really was so much better than the regular Bjorn...and I'm full chested!

I'm full chested (and full everything else :rolleyes2 ) and the Baby Bjorn works fine for me. We may have a slightly larger size - :confused3. It was given to me by a friend who got it as a gift and her DD didn't like it.
Granted the straps are almost at their max extension for me, but it does fit. I still carry DS in it once in a while.

The maya wrap (sling) did not work for us. It always slid off my shoulder up to my neck (and, yes, I was putting it on correctly) so it hurt my shoulder/neck/back. DS didn't like it in any case, so I passed it on to another mommy who had a very clingy DD.

Everyone is shaped differently, so what works for one may not work for another.

BTW - since I'm full all over (or pooh sized as some say here) I have not found a backpack that fits. And if I did, I doubt I'd wear it since it hooks around the waist and makes the bulges bulge even more!

I'm also a 40DDD. The Baby Bjorn with the Extra Large straps worked very well for me, it was comfy and most importantly baby was comfortable. I loved it! However I did find that you can't nurse with the Bjorn on, so if you are nursing, I would recommend a sling also. I had both a sling and carrier, my baby did'nt like the sling much once she was about 2mos old, but I used the Bjorn carrier for quite a while. :)

I too am the same bust size and I used the BB. I loved it! I never knew that there were longer straps (bet that would make it even better). My suggestion is too put yours on and then adjust yourself (bust wise) into the straps (so that straps are on the outside of your bust). Make sure that the back strap is low enough (the X should be close to the middle of your back (bra strap area). Good Luck!

Ok after I had my last baby I went for a fitting and was shocked to see that I was a 40G :scared1: (I said that sounded rather porno size were they sure- and sure enough that bra fit!) But back to the carriers- I wore the Baby Bjorn with the extra long straps- I think it was called the XL baby Bjorn carrier. I just googled it and it is on closeout in most stores so I guess they are phasing it out. But it worked great for us.

I used the Maya sling mentioned in a previous post. I'm Pooh-sized too (or was - there's about 40 lbs. less of me now! :teeth: ) and I love that the sling comes in different sizes and is so adjustable. If memory serves, I think I called and ordered mine directly from the company that makes them and I do remember that they were really helpful in advising me on size and fabric choices. The only problems I had with the Maya were: 1. I have narrow shoulders and it took some practice to position it so that it didn't slide off and 2. I never felt secure enough with a sling to go totally hands free the way you can with a carrier. But I still prefer it over the carriers because of the adjustability and all the different ways you can use it. HTH. :)

I'm a 38/40DD and used my snugglie baby pack when DD (now 11 months)was really little. Although DD must have been compfier when DH wore it as he didn't have ****s that kept DD from being compfy.

We too ahve the Kelty pack that converst to a stroller. I would go with the regular pack (not stroller style) as the stroller never works right!!! But the pack is wonderful!!! Like a backpacking pack the weight is well distributed and you can purchase a rainhood for it. DD enjoys riding around in it.

I don't how it would work for a very full-chested person (no luck in that department, I'm afraid!), but I LOVE the slings at www.hotslings.com. They work with you and your exact measurements, and make the slings to order. Beautiful fabrics, fairly low price for a sling, and my son loved it. It never hurt my back, either, like the BB did. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I lost a lot of weight between babies, and they helped me find an exact fit each time. Very helpful.

You might want to give a mei tai a try. The Kozy Carriers, Baby Hawks, and Sachis get great reviews over on thebabywearer website.

Mei tai have long straps that you tie yourself, no buckles. And they're extremely comfortable. Plus they do not put any spinal stress on the infant like a Bjorn will.

thanks for all the wonderful links everyone and the great ideas! AM checking them all out!

check out www.mamatoto.org for lots of different types of carriers. I agree with the pp, snugli/bjorn type carriers are not good for the infants spine, and they are being held by the crotch, not the bum like a wrap or mei tai or pouch or other carrier.
If you like buckle type carriers, the ergo is great.
I am a 32G and I have had great success with wraps, mei tais, ringslings (maya, wallababy), and my ergo.
Good luck!

I'm large-busted, too (40G) and I love my kangarookorner sling. It's called the adjustable fleece pouch and it's fantastic! It's great for a newborn all the way up to a toddler (my 14 month old loves it) and it's very comfortable.

Also wanted to add that the kangarookorner pouch is easy to nurse in, if that's something you're looking for..

I'm bringing mine!! I love hotslings and kk fleece pouches too, but the MT distributes weight across both shoulders better for me and it's adjustable to multiple wearers where the hotslings/fleece pouches are sized to a specific wearer...DH is larger than I so we have a kozycarrier with xl straps, I just tuck the extra length in someplace. There will be 4 adults with us this trip and our MT will be used by all at one point or another!!!! There are several versions out there, check out thebabywearer. If you are in a big hurry, yahoo has a babywearing swap group, you could find a gently used one there fast!!!
Happy babywearing in WDW!!
