B&H Families Road Trip to Mickeyville
Location: WDW, Pop Century Resort
Date: June 3-9, 2007
Cast: Myself (A), age 28
DH (D), age 33
DD (K), age 7, drama queen
My dad, (S), age 55
My step mom, (L), age 47
Transportation: 1995 GMC Van, 9 hour drive
Sunday June 3: We leave out at 5am on Sunday morning. Woohoo! The van is old, but the inside is in very good shape. It has a TV and a PS2. We packed a wide variety of video games and movies to keep us entertained on the 9 hour drive. Which turned out to be a bit longer because the alternator went out on the way! Funny thing is, for several months DH had been saying that he was going to buy an alternator and water pump to take with us, b/c neither had ever been replaced, and if one went out it would have to be replaced immediately. However, he never got around to buying them .of course if he had have bought them, the alternator wouldnt have gone out, eh?
First stopped at a car parts store alternator was out of stock. 2nd stop was a tire place to ask for directions to another parts store- guy couldnt speak English. 3rd stop was a big truck repair place, that allowed us to charge the battery and told us where the closest Advance Auto Parts was. 4th stop- finally found an alternator. DH has always done mechanic work, therefore he was able to replace it himself in about an hour, and then we were on our way.
So we finally arrive, and get checked in. Had rooms 1145 and 1144 in the 50s section- fairly close to Classic Hall. 1st floor. We were very pleased with the location of the rooms. DD was dying to go swimming, so we do that as well.
Monday: We head to Epcot. First went to Soarin to get FP. Then rode the new Nemo ride with no wait. It was okay- but kinda neat the way that some of the projections were done. Thought that wed catch Crush, but DD actually wanted to ride Spaceship Earth instead. Love me some Spaceship Earth! Walked right on. Then it was time for our Soarin FP. Love me some Soarin too! While waiting to board the hang gliders, everyone in the queue won YOAMD ears! Yeah! We actually won something!
After Soarin, it was time for our ADR at Le Cellier. Around this time the DD starts complaining of her feet, and insisting upon a stroller. We hadnt planned to get one b/c she is 7yo and 63 lbs. She kept on and on, so we finally told her after we ate that me and DH would go back to rent a stroller.
So, our Le Cellier review. For appetizer, I ordered the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. I was quite surprised to discover it tastes almost exactly like my homemade loaded baked potato soup. (DH insists that my soup tastes better!). It was good, but I was a little disappointed- I was expecting something different. To pay $4.99 for a little bowl of soup that tastes just like something I make at home didnt impress me much. Id give it a 7.
My entrée was Calgary BBQ Sliced Prime Rib. Very good, except that the bread crust was extremely hard. Pretty large sandwich- I give it an 8. DH ordered the Grilled Steak Burger with blue cheese- that was awesome! We frequently ordered blue cheese burgers at a local place, but this one was even better. The meat used was so buttery good! I give it a 9.
DD got the childs steak. Tasty, but way too much gristle. They definitely didnt use a good cut of steak for hers. Id give it a 6.
S ordered the Open Face Sirloin Steak Sandwich. I didnt try it, but he seemed to enjoy it. L ordered the Caesar Salad with Chicken (she cant eat red meat). They brought it out as huge lettuce leaves topped with dressing, and the chicken and other fixings underneath. You should have seen the weird look on her face when the server sat down that plate of huge lettuce leaves- lol. L prefers plainer food- shes not much for the exotic or unusual. She didnt complain any, but I dont think that she liked the salad.
No dessert, except for the sundae that came with DDs kid meal.
So then DH and I return to the front of the park to rent a stroller, and DD accompanies S&L to World Showcase. DH and I catch another ride on Spaceship Earth. We catch up with them in Morocco. By then it was getting very, very hot. Some of the rest of the day is a blur, but we rode Test Track twice with FP, DH and I went back to the room to get him another can of Copenhagen, we rode Maelstrom twice with little wait, I ate 1.75 school breads from Norway (LOVE that! Thanks to the Disboarders for suggesting it- although I have a suggestion of my own- 1 is enough! Lol). We watched the drummers at Japan. Wandered in and out of various stores around the World. Later we staked out a table near the trading post to watch Illuminations. We snacked on nachos from the Cantina de San Angel while watching. Then, we sat there for a long while, letting the huge crowds pass. When we did leave, we didnt have to wait as long for a bus back to Pop.
And that concludes day 1.
