So we are not Ina. Place we thought we would be financially, 3 months to trip exactly. Have room and tickets paid off but need to find some cash. So I am going to sell som items....wondering if anyone has ideas on things that sell well online? I have a moms group I am hoping to sell some nice toys, breast pump, maybe our stroller we don't need. Our school sells spots for a garage sale (I am in nyc, nobody has sales from home) so while doing that in sept. I am also an artist, thinking of seeing if anyone wants to buy some cute art..something involving their kids? Any ideas? I can do about any type of art...HMM. This stinks! I can end up canceling our two ADRs but have to try!

I'm not sure how much workspace you have, being in NYC, but I know a few people who refinish wood furniture from garage sales or thrift stores and resell them. If you pick your pieces wisely and use modern paints or stains, you can make a tidy profit.

I don't know how you feel about ebay but last month I sold some stuff on there that I haven't used in years and made over $500.00. That's my "play" money for my trip. :)

You say you can do any type of art...can you TEACH that? Maybe put up some flyers offering to teach some art.

My Aunt paints those little Russian stacking dolls and sells them on etsy for a tidy profit. I won't post a link here, but try searching them. She painted an adorable "Lion King" version for my son's nursery.

Maybe you could do murals in kids' rooms, playrooms, etc.
Also, paint those wooden letters custom for people. Those would be easy to sell in an etsy shop.

Great ideas,....I have to get cracking trip is in three months. My savings so far are pitiful, bad money sucking things keep happening to us. Sigh! I have to start putting money on gift cards so it is untouchable as soon as I earn extra. Far cry from last years trip! Oh well I will be overjoyed to go again on this bonus trip even if I cancel my ADRs.

On ebay girl's clothes tend to sell better than boys clothes. You can always consign at consignment shops. As far as art, one thing to do would be look under jobs-art/media/design jobs on craigslist.com

Previous posters have suggested great ideas, but honestly -- I'd be hesitant to take a trip at this time if "bad, money-sucking things" keep happening. It sounds like you go fairly often, so why not reschedule when money is less tight? Just a thought.

The OP has the tickets and the room already paid. She just needs a little bit more cash. While I would never blow money that I didn't have, I think if I sat around and waited until I was in a great financial position to do anything, then I would be waiting around my whole life.

I was recently at a vintage/craft/street fair and a kid about 10 or so set up a table and 2 chairs and put up a sign saying something like "I'll draw your portrait - whatever you want to pay". He worked the table for about an hour and then I saw him running around yelling to a friend "I made sixty-for bucks!"

Perhaps you could do some portraits?

Additionally, I love Etsy and I make money on Etsy. It is quite a big job to get a business going on there though and I wouldn't open a shop thinking that you will make a big pile of cash quick. If you do decide to open an Etsy shop to make money in the long run, hit me up if you need help or advice. I do love that venue and we'd never be able to go on Disney trips without it. :)

I have seen some amazing disney art done on Toms soes and Keds shoes. If you could paint those, I think you could make a ton. I would love a pair of the Toms myself! If you contemplate that, pm me! If you look up Disney Toms on Etsy you cansee some cute ones!

OP, I would unload stuff on Craigslist or Facebook. Just look around for things you have sitting in the closet or in a drawer that you never use anymore (old cell phones, seasonal clothes, jewelry, etc) I'm all about instant gratification/payment versus waiting for a buyer to pay through Paypal on ebay. Are you into photography at all? Or good with photoshop? Maybe you could offer to do senior pics or something.

Another great place to earn some extra spending money is online surveys/sites. I do Zoombucks, MyPoints, I-Say, and several others. Just cashed out on Opinion Outpost too.

Honey do those sites pay fast enough? Trip is in 74 days. Our school does a yard sale, $10 for a spot but it is not until oct 5th, might be too close. I have done Craigslist before and been very frustrated..people did not show or were super weird. Maybe I will try again.....I have a good little list going!

I've always sold my kids' clothes on ebay, but the fees are 10% of the sale and the shipping, and making sure everything is perfect so someone doesn't ruin your rep is time consuming.
I agree with PP about facebook. I joined a bunch of local groups. I price stuff $2 lower than I would really like to get, and get a fast response. Bird in hand! - take any reasonable offer, give a discount to anyone buying multiple items, etc. Reduce number of no-shows by adding "FCFS" (First Come First Served) in your post.
I wouldn't sell your hand made stuff that way though unless you were able to get a fair price for it - that's what etsy is for :)

Search handprint art on pinterest. Lots of possibilities if you were set up somewhere parents would have their kids. i saw this over the summer at a craft fair, seemed to be doing a lot of business.
