I live in an area that I imagine is much like where you are now, with few "year arounds" and many "seasonals". We, too, try to help out our neighbor, whichever category they fall into. One of the main reasons we've stayed here, despite the financial hardship, is because of how people in this area believe in the golden rule of doing unto others.

Baking for him is great, but you also might want to think about a gas card to the local gas station, or a gift certificate to the nearest diner or fish fry place when you finally pack up to go. Even send it to him at Xmas, if you think he won't accept it in person.

Good for him for helping others out!

I think there are more nice people out there than we think...we just don't hear about the nice people because nice is boring.

The badness and the drama "sell", so that's what we hear.
