Awkward moment at the NFL Draft as player expected to be drafted in top 10 not drafted in 1st round

And there was something weird stuff going on with all the women around him (including his mother) dressed like they were ready to go clubbing. His girlfriend was there, and there was some confusion as to whether or not he had multiple girlfriends with him at the same time. Apparently it was two of his sisters with him along with his girlfriend (who isn't in this photo).

I have no interest in the NFL draft. A quick perusal of a story suggested this player was all hype and no substance, that’s why he was passed over.

There's always a player who slips out of the first day that was expected to go high. I think I heard this morning that the same thing happened to Lamar Jackson, and he just signed the highest NFL salary ($52M/year?).

ETA: And let's not cry over this. More than likely he'll get picked up by someone and still make millions.

UK fan here. Painful to see any player in this situation, but especially one of our guys.

Basically there were going to be 3 QBs taken early and the 4th was going to drop due to teams' needs. Young & Stroud were going 1-2, so the 3rd QB was going to be either Richardson or Levis. It came down to who Indy preferred, and I could make the case for either guy (or trading back). I can't fault them. Both guys have low floors and high ceilings.

Tough break for Levis, but being a 2nd round pick isn't exactly chopped liver. Just tough to be on display for all that.

And his sisters. Good genes in that family!

He was the last pick in the 1st round. Heck - I remember when the talk was that the 49ers were deciding between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers for the first pick of the 2005 NFL Draft. Then he didn't get picked until the 24th pick by the Packers.

Beside that, the 49ers would have probably messed that up if they had picked Rodgers. But now I think may be the only player picked in the 2005 NFL Draft who is still playing.

But the MOST awkward moment was the "celebration" between the Iowa player's Dad and Girlfriend!!!!lol

WOWSA!

It happens most every year. The media should stop hyping certain players. We only watched a few minutes here & there last night. We noticed right away the club like set up the draftees were all seated in & that everyone looked like they were going to a club. I told my DH it’s quite a difference from the NHL draft. Those kids always look like professionals ready to get to work.

I feel so sorry for that future millionaire

I was going to say the same thing about this happening every year. I suppose if you had any doubt about not going in the first round, you wouldn't come that night. Big oops on Will's part.

They were waiting to ride his gravy train.

The worst was that Notre Dame QB a few years ago. They moved him to a private room. That was painful to watch.

CBS sports Pete Prisco was so bold as to claim before the draft that he should be drafted first overall. HAHA.
There are plenty of teams that could use a QB that passed on him in the first round. They simply did not see him as worthy of their picks in the first round. Seattle passed at 5 The raiders passed at 7. The Falcons passed at 8. The Titans passed at 11. The Packers passed at 13. Seattle passed again at 20.
Rumor has it Seattle, Las Vegas, The Titans and Atlanta are interested in trading up with the Steelers to get him early in round 2.

Jimmy the ego Claussen. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He was picked 48th (2nd rd) bounced around a couple of years and never did much. Career record 1-13. TD 7 INT 14. 54% comp 61.9 rating 4.3 ypa.

But this guy has none of the character concerns (that turned out to be right) that caused Claussen to drop.

I felt very sorry for the young man to sit there for so long and not be picked. He had been projected to go by the 5th pick. I just finished reading a thread at a different site. The keyboard warriors were really laying it on thick. Some comments ......"his girl friend left early to return the gifts he had gotten her and now won't be able to afford them." "No one probably came to his birthday party." "He probably keep the $100 and pretended he hadn't seen it." I had to chuckle at the last two comments because my DH and I have a custom of watching "Draft Day" just before the draft starts and had commented that Will reminded us of the QB from Wisconsin in the movie.

Can't believe ABC felt it is worth HOURS of TV coverage.
Sort of like the interest that started here about 15 years ago in covering High School Athletes signing letters of intent. Half flunk out.

i am so devoid of any football knowledge that i had no concept of why everyone in my work unit was so excited that the nice young college student son of our co-worker (who had volunteered on occasion in our office) had just been picked in the second round by the '49ers back in the late '90s. certainly was life altering for him.

I'm not normally one to question someone for choice of attire, but I think mom chose poorly.
wait why - she is completely covered in the picture above. I did see one momma from the first couple of pics who had her chest well shown.
