UPDATED: Just wanted to say that I went to Hertz and made a "dummy" booking from PVD to MCO, one-way and the rate was $100 plus a day. So it DOES appear that they are trying to bring some of the cars back to the NE area in May!!! Woo hoo!!

Hello all. I am writing to share my disbelief in the deal I just got on a one way rental through Hertz.

We are coming back from a cruise on May 24th. The flights going down to MCO were reasonable ($99.00 per person), but coming home I was only finding $161 plus per person. As a back-up I decided to book a rental car. Several weeks ago when I was pricing a rental it was averaging $600 for a one-way from Orlando to Providence...

Well this morning I went on-line and got a full size rental from MCO to PVD for $34.. I double checked EVERYTHING.

Has anyone everyone ever had such a good deal? I worry that I will get to the counter and they will try to charge more. Anyone have any experience?

Sometimes car rental companies have to reposition their fleet. With it being the beginning summer, Hertz may need to move cars up north. Book your reservation and print out everything and I think you will be okay. I hope you have a great cruise!

They need to move cars back up north for the summer. The snow birds will have gone home.

Agree with the others. You're traveling at just the right time to get a good price.

Spring is a big time to move the vehicles out of the South. Then in winter, there are usually good deals for one way going South.

We did this last year and my daughter is doing it again this year. She rented a minivan for 3 days (actually 2 days and 1 hour -- needed to use the coupon) and with coupons and discounts with National she is paying a total of $44. She will return it to Dulles. There are six of them driving home, with no stay overnight. Last year my husband and I did it, but we got a room for the night in NC. It didn't save us any money since it would've cost us the same to fly, but I can say we tried....I wasn't a fan. Both Alamo and National do the exact same thing. It's 9.99 for cars and 19.99 for SUVs per day.

I once got a terrific daily rate for Phoenix pickup and Anaheim drop off. No need to be scared.

$161 per person sounds a heck of a lot better than driving 19 hours?

There are four of us, so it adds up. Plus I only paid $99 per person going down, it just irks me to pay almost double to come home!

We have driven to and from orlando 3x (last April was our last trip). The kids tolerate it pretty well

How does $130 per person each way sound? That's effectively what you'd be paying. $260 round trip? That's what another poster is paying for slightly shorter flights - NYC-MCO>NYC.

You might try making some comparable dummy bookings with different origins or destinations or dates to see what prices you come up with.

IMHO if you find more than a few selections from the same company at comparable prices for rentals of a like character on any dates (do print screens*) then they may not nullify yours on the grounds they made a typo or other error in their pricing or advertising or web page. If you find a comparable rate from that company in newspaper or other advertising you could bring a copy of that to the counter too. To me a rental of similar character here could include one of half the mileage but also crossing three or more state boundaries.

Note that, if you deviate from the contract even just a little, such as being a little late to the destination, they reserve the right to refigure the entire rental at "current" rates. Extra days, etc. need to be cleared in advance; you may not simply return the car a day late.

* Requires doing more than pressing the "PrtScn" button.

We have a deal like that. Disney car care to GRB, $35. The airport 5 min. From our house was on lockout so it would be way over$100. If you are flexible with the location to return there are deals to be found.
