Award Travel - Can you swap or how to use on a different airline

I want to use my AA miles for a trip for my Mom & Dad, they are in Montana and American no longer contracts with the only small airline that services their town. They could fly to Billings and get a flight from there but ideally it would be best if they didn't have to do that.

Northwest and Delta look like they would ticket the flight so I'd probably be able to book with those rewards. Not what I have.

Anyone know of any options like trading out or something that I could do?

Call AA. All airlines have different policies on this.

AA does NOT partner with either Northwest or Delta. Miles from AA sadly won't work to get you flights on NW or DL. (NW and DL are partners, along with Continental, so you could use NW/DL/CO miles for flights on any of those 3, but that doesn't really help you)
