Avoiding Stairs for some attractions

We've attended many times with members of our party in various stages of health, but this is the first time I have an issue, so I'm looking for advice.

I am fine walking and standing all day, etc. However, I have a knee that if I do a lot of stairs (not all stairs just ones with certain pitches) will put me in pain for the rest of the day.

If it's a staircase like at Mexico where I can take my time and kind of do a one straight legged hop up and down I'm ok, my concern is rides like Toy Story, or some of the seating for shows, where I don't want to hold up the entire Que with my hopping. lol

So my question is, do I need to go to guest services and have any kind of notation put on my band, or can I just ask to avoid certain sets of stairs at each attraction? I don't need or want faster access and have no problem having the rest of my party wait in regular Que till I can join them, I just want to avoid unnecessary pain and/or being a road block to the rest of the people in line.

You would speak to a cast member at each individual attraction. Just let them know you can't do stairs and they will direct you to the correct entrance (which is sometimes inside the attraction).

yes just talk to the CM at the attraction I can not do stars in the dark fell down the stars at space mountain not because of any mobility problem but a vision problem it was not problem to go though the FP line at all you just need to tell the CM what you needs are and they will help you. there really are not that many rides with stars at disney luckily at some you may wait longer or shorter depending on how may people are infant of you. you also might want to think about getting in and out of ride vehicles as some can be a big step up or down.

at Toy Story Mania there is an option that does not require stairs but it will take longer to ride as it is the wheelchair load area. only certain cars come to that area. been there done it just let the CM know you can not do the stairs

Post 28 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread lists the attractions with stairs and moving walkways. There are not that many of them and, as was mentioned, you ask the CM at the entrance what to do. Usually, it will involve a 'pull off point' just before the stairs which will avoid the stairs entirely.

FYI - you can avoid the stairs at Mexico. Go past Mexico toward Norway and look for a path just after you pass the stairs going up to Mexico. There is a ramped path that leads long the side and up into the building.

Thanks for all the help!

That is really good to know about the path into Mexico too!! I'm fine on moving walkways, it's just when I bend at certain angles it hurts really bad and so I take stairs really really slowly. It hurts getting in and out of some ride vehicles too, but fortunately that's one bend and then I can plop on the seat. I just don't want to be that person holding up the whole que. I don't mind waiting longer to load at Toy Story either if it means total stair avoidance.

I will definitely check that sticky/list out. I am glad to hear I don't need to do anything other than alert a CM either, I don't want to make this more of a hassle than it needs to be, and glad I don't need to add a trip to Guest Relations just for a few staircases.
