Avoiding MDE Glitch - making changes to reservation

Hi All - I've read the posts about people making changes to their reservations inside their 60 day window for FP+ and then losing all their fastpasses. I want to avoid this......

We have a 7 day base ticket, but will be there for 9 days. We have one "down" day that we do not plan on going to any of the 4 main parks - instead we may do mini golf or buy water park tickets. However, if we decide, while at Disney, to add a day to our tickets and attend a park on our "down" day, will this trigger the same glitch others have had when making their changes prior to arrival? I would assume not, since it would not trigger a change in our "package" and we would be upgrading the tickets a paying the difference after being in the park a few days, but I wanted to see what the Disboard consensus was.........

We do not want to add the day now because a) we are not sure we will want to go to a park on our "down" day and b) if we do decide to go, it would probably just be my husband and I heading over to EPCOT for food and wine after a day at Typhoon lagoon, as we would likely leave our kids with their grandparents. So, we don't want to pay to add an extra day to everyone on our package when we may not even use it, and if we do, not everyone needs to additional day! :)

So - what do we think...safe from an MDE glitch if we add a day while at the parks?

I say you will be safe. I updated our 5 day parkhoppers to AP in the middle of my trip and nothing happened to my FP+.

From all the discussion I read the reason behind loosing FP+ is based on the fact that they cancelled a reservation with tickets on it.

If you are cancelling a reservation with tickets on it to move to another resort or something like that then you will lose your FP+ from my understanding.

If you start using your tickets and add a day I would assume that is an "add-on" change and not a delete the ticket and change the number of days type of change. Hopefully someone who has worked ticketing can help with this?

Someone posted just yesterday, I think, that she took hoppers and water parks off her tickets and lost all her fastpasses.

Disney typically will not refund tickets. They are happy to upgrade they normally won't down grade.

My guess is that action in the computer was done as a cancel and new booking.
