We had four adults transferring from BCV to Port Canaveral, and then from Port Canaveral to MCO. I picked up the car at the Hilton near DTD. It is an easy walk across the street from DTD or you can be lazy as I was and take a cab for $10. If you are organized enough to arrange ahead of time, they will also pick you up at your resort. I had originally reserved for 5:00 on Friday, but forgot due to the good time we were having at F&W at Epcot, I completely forgot. By the time I remembered, the office was closed. (They close at 6:00PM. When I called fiorst thing the next morning, they still had my car (website listed them as completely sold out).

Drop off at Port Canaveral was a breeze. Avis is about a mile or two further South than Budget on the left side of the street. They have two shuttles running on cruise days. Even though I had just missed a shuttle, one was back in about 5 minutes. By the time I got back to the Port, my party had checked in and our boarding number was called 5 minutes later. TIP: Your wife can check you in if you leave a photo ID with her (ie. passport) But be sure to bring another (ie driver's licence) to get back into the fenced area when you get back on the shuttle.

The return trip was equally as smooth. Shuttle was waiting when we disembarked. I left the party at the Port so as not to crowd the shuttle, but others brought the whole family. There seemed to be plenty of room. Only three renters were on my shuttle. TIP: If you sign up as Avis preferred member all of your info is in the computer. Check in takes two minutes and you are on your way. When I got back to the port, I was allowed to drive right up to the terminal. Remember to have your Key to the World card to get back in security.

Our flight wasn't until 3:00PM, so we drove back to DTD for one last taste of Disney, then back to the airport. The Avis return is in the parking garage right in fornt of the terminal.

Total cost was a little over $100 for the two rentals plus about $20 in gas. That saved about $80 compared to Disney transportation plus the freedom to come and go as we pleased. It worked great for us.

Thanks for the detailed report. We are cruising with a large group including young children and is interested in how to do the drop off/ pickup routine at the cruise terminal.

Besides just a driver's license, did the driver need to have his cruise documents to get into the port?

Was there a well marked pickup area where the group can wait for the driver to get the car?

My wife had the cruise docs to check in. When you make a left into the terminal drop-off area, there is a security guard that will ask for photo ID for everyone in the vehicle. He has a list to check everyone's name. When the shuttle drops you off at the shuttke stop outside the fence, there is another security guard with a list at the pedestrian gate. All you have to have is photo ID to get in. Meanwhile, your wife can check you in with the docs and the second photo ID.

Upon return, the group can just wait on the sidewalk in front of the terminal where you dropped them off prior to the cruise. Your Key to the World and photo ID will let you back into the secured area to pick them up.
