I know you can't give me an exact figure but can someone ball park a figure for new vinyl siding and windows (Andersen or Pella) for an average 2 story house. 4 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths. Is $30,000 about right??? I live in NY. Nothing crazy like stone accents. Just regular good quality siding.

We had ours done 3 years ago and that is definately in the ball park. So many variables - what kind of windows/amount of windows/What type of siding you choose.

I'd recommend getting at least 3 estimates. Listen to their pitch. It will help you be able to compare the estimates. Don't be in a hurry. I had a friend delay making a decision and the company called her and offered her a discount.

Thanks so much. I know there are a ton of variables but I just wanted a jumping off point. # estimates seems like a great suggestion. And the color choices these days seem endless.

Dang that's expensive. We are going to need new (cedar) siding soon (we've already had to replace many rotted pieces this year). How on earth is the average person supposed to be able to afford $30k for siding?!?

I just remembered that the company we decided to go with had a list of houses that they had already done. We drove aroung looking at the finished product. It helped us narrow down our color combinations.

My parents got theirs done about 7 years ago and for their one story home and 9 windows they spend a little less than $20,000

It sounds high to me but it's hard to say without knowing how many windows there are.

We got a $40K estimate 4 years ago for new siding, windows, doors and a wrap around porch.

We had ours done last year (2 story garrison with attached 2 car garage and farmer's porch) and that's right in the ballpark. We did the siding, 13 new construction windows (our sills were really rotted so it made more sense to go with new construction windows vs. replacement), 2 new windows and a french door to replace a large plate glass picture window, roof, and deck (14'x 28').

We got three estimates and ended up picking the guy in the middle. We went with the Harvey windows and a mid-grade siding. We drove around our neighborhood to get ideas on color combinations. Since we plan to sell in the next 5 years I consulted with a realtor who suggested going with neutral colors (she said they sell better/faster). We ended up with tan siding, white trim and black shutters and painted the door a deep plum color.

Good luck.

Are you having your trim wrapped in metal? That will add quite a bit to the cost.

That's just about what my siding cost (no windows included). I've got a 2 story PLUS a detached 3 car garage. My siding is beautiful. worth every cent, and I have people stop and ask very often. Certain-Teed Rustic Blend straight-edge.

Wow. That's nearly 1/3 of what I paid for my house.

Twinglemum, are you in NYC or further west? 30K seems high but I guess it's New York city area where everything is higher!

That seems ok, my parents (Lower Westchester County NY- so shouldn't be anymore expensive than that) are doing siding this month and their house is 2 stories approx 35' x 50', and they are well below that number (less than 1/2) Using their choice of Mastic or Certainteed siding - not doing windows though - also includes new soffits and gutters.

Now adding windows to that mix - obviously changes the pricing scenario but I would expect it to cost around the same or slightly more than the siding...How many windows, what style, Casements or double hungs, what product level of window - includes installation and all trimwork - interior too?

Lots of factors to consider, but I think it is defintely in the ballpark.

Seems somewhat low. Like the previous poster said windows can be expensive especially when considering pella. Sounds like you have a good size home, I would figure at least $300 a window installed for an avg. double hung window, in your case that may be a low # when considering a premium brand.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping $30k was high ;) but I know that all the little extras add up. I'm on Long Island so I think prices in Westchester should be close. I'm going to try and keep it reasonable.
