My wife and I booked this reservation in Feb 2003 with our DVC points and then later learned that we'll be expecting our first baby the same week of the reservation!

If I remember correctly, we used 146 DVC points to make this reservation. I would love to recoup some of this if possible. So let's say... 60 DVC pts? Any takers?

Why don't you cancel. You'll have up to a year to use the replacement week. Start another search right away. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I don't believe we can. This is the second time we've used these points to make a reservation thru II. We had to cancel the first reservation, then made this reservation using the same points. I heard that if I cancel again, I'll lose the points. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the advice.

That is my understanding as well. Unfortunately it is against II's rules to rent or for any other form of compensation for an exchanged unit. That's not to say it's not done all the time. I'd contact DVC and ask them about it. I wish you well.
