Is availability within 10 days of booking really different than what is shown on the website? We are waitlisted for an ocean view inn room at VB next month from a garden view. Is it worth calling within the 10 days to see if something came available even if the website says there is no availability?
 
You are "seeing" the same availability as MS would on the web-site.
Can a last minute cancellation happen - yes.
 
Then why does the website say…

"Accommodation inventory is the same whether you book online or through Member Services, except within 10 days of arrival. For close-in bookings, if you do not receive your desired selection, you may contact Member Services."

This makes me think that 10 days or less prior what we see on the website is not the same as what MS sees.

I think within 10 days, they can call the resort to see if they have an open cash room that they want to swap.
