Hi everyone,
we are new to DVC and expect to close on our resale contract (at Aulani) within the next month. We would like to book a 2 bedroom villa at Grand Californian for the week right after Memorial Day/early June. We might not make the 7-month mark on the dot, we may be a little bit late.

How difficult will it be for us to secure a 2 BR villa during that time for 4 or 5 nights? We are a little flexible but would like that week if possible.

Also, we are considering going with a one BR + a studio if we have to. Would that be easier or harder to get?

Thanks in advance!

Almost impossible, even right at the seven month window. There are very few rooms at VGC - and owners tend to book it pretty solid. The remaining few rooms there is still competition for.

Oh, and two rooms would be harder.

Totally agree. Even at seven months out it would be difficult. One night, maybe, but more, not likely.

Tomorrow is the 7 month mark for June 1 so you will be well past that mark if you don't close for another month. A dedicated 2 bedroom is easier to get than a studio or 1 bedroom. Right now there are many dates in May available, including May 25 to the end of the month.

The time you want in a 2BR at VGC has, in the last two years, been open at 7 months out. However, you are not closing until next month and likely will not be in the reservation system before December, and at six months out it could be much more difficult, although you should still check when you first get a chance. Studios usually disappear before 2BRs at VGC and thus you are unlikely to get the studio and 1BR if you find no 2BR open.

At 7 months, your odds are fair. At 6 months, they will be poor.

I was able to book a 1 BR at VGC from May 11-May 18th right at the 7 month mark (to the day). I wanted a studio, but they were all gone. So I think your chances of getting a studio is zero. I agree that your chances go down every day out from the 7 month point. I wish you luck. It's a beautiful place.

Thank you all for your helpful responses! We will see what is available when we are officially members. We can't wait!:thanks::thanks:

Put yourself on the waitlist. You just never know. We've scored twice in the last few years. Stuff happens in lives or people decide they just can't make it "this year"...

same experience here. couldnt get a studio at 7 months but 1 bedroom was there for october.

Waitlists are easier to come by if you try for a shorter stay. Maybe try to waitlist 3 nights, then add one night at a time. You may end up with a split stay, though, but still the opportunity to visit the resort.
maybe start with 3 nights at the end of your stay, so you'll be a less excited about the parks and you'll enjoy the resort a bit more. Also, if you have an onsite stay at the end of the vacation you can use a Magic Morning as other guests and once you checkin at the VGC you can use early entry all the other days.
Good luck!

And we scored again! Put ourselves on the waiting list for a VGC studio exactly seven months to the day at 8AM, for Dec 11th arrival.
Today is Nov 10th and the "magical" email arrived saying we got the room for the weekend!

I was able to get a 2 Bedroom Villa at VGC yesterday for the week of July 3-8 with no problem. I did it online exactly at 8 am Eastern. Maybe I was lucky? But it worked fine for me.
