Has anyone rode latey! We are schedule for Aug 13 so just wondering in anyone has taken it lately and had any comments or suggestions!

Thanks,
Marcy

Well, this isn't too recently, but I rode it back in mid-May from Lorton to Sanford, and it was actually early getting to Sanford!! I checked into All-Star Music by 11:15, and that was taking my own sweet time, too. Overall I had a wonderful ride! :)

We traveled Lorton to Sanford on June 3rd in a roomette. The ride was a little bumpier during the night than in the past, but all in all it was a pretty good trip. We were about 1 hour late getting into Sanford. When we arrived in Sanford, there were only 2 or 3 "car jockeys" to remove the vehicles. After about 30 minutes a few more showed up and the detraining of the cars then moved pretty quickly. We are using the AutoTrain again - round trip/coach - in mid September. Can't wait :woohoo:
If this is your first trip on the AutoTrain, you may want to go to this "dis" thread. You can find all sorts of info there.

Have a great trip.

It is my (our) first time taking it! I've heard good and bad. However, I do go into it thinking that the train ride is all part of the adventure. I'll bring my laptop and some books so hopefully the time will pass quickly.

It beats driving!

Thanks!

I haven't been on the auto train lately but I've taken 2 trips previously. I actually enjoyed the trips except for sleeping. During our 2004 trip, the food was very good. Not what you would expect on a train!

Using auto train for the first time on 9/8/06. Can you tell me about the 2 person room. I am claustrophobic so the thought of the top bunk in these rooms is pretty scary.

Does anybody know of any codes good for travel in january '07?

we've taken the auto train twice (jan. '03 & jan. '05), and except for the sleeping part- we loved it. I do suggest bringing your own pillow or blanket- the ones they give you are those thin air line ones.

You board the train, you can hang out, you can go to the lounge car & get some snacks or fruit or hot chocolate. (they also sell some other snacks, but some are free)

They also rent dvd players with a bunch of shows & movies for about 20.00 each way.

When you arrive, you sign up for one of 3 dinner times. They also show a movie once or twice a night.
If there is no delay, you wake up- go in for a continental breakfast & should be arriving shortly after that.

It CAN take a while for them to unload your car once you're at the station, which can be frustrating- but it's very random.

Enjoy!

Hi! I shared a two person room (standard sleeper) with my niece last year. She got the lower one since I was afraid she would fall, so I get the upper one. And yes, it was a tad claustrophobic! The worst part of it is that you can't see out the window from the upper bunk. And it can be hard to get in and out of, and overall the whole room is quite tiny. Sorry, this probably isn't what you wanted to hear!

But even so, I would take the upper again without hesitation, as I love the Autotrain! :)

No this is exactly what I wanted to hear so that I do not make the mistake and get the small room....thank you very much for the info.
